genesis 2:1-3
thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. and by the seventh day God completed His work
which He had done; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. then God blessed the
seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
exodus 20:8-11
remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath
of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female
servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the
sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

the chiasm of hebrews
hebrews 2-4
a. He had to be made like His brethren in all things, that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in
things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. for since He Himself was tempted in that
which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. hebrews 2:17, 18
b. but encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “today,” lest any one of you be hardened
by the deceitfulness of sin. for we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance
firm until the end; while it is said,
“today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as when they provoked Me.” hebrews 3:13-15
c. for we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,
“as I swore in my wrath, they shall not enter My rest,”
although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. hebrews 4:3
d. for He has thus said somewhere concerning the seventh day, “and God rested on the
seventh day from all His work,” hebrews 4:4
c’. and again in this passage, “they shall not enter My rest.” hebrews 4:5
b’. He again fixes a certain day, “today,” saying through david after so long a time just as has been said before,
“today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” hebrews 4:7
a’. since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the son of God, let us hold fast
our confession. for we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been
tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. hebrews 4:14, 15
