We had another good turn-out at our
hot June cruise-in. Thanks to all that
came out and enjoyed the evening
with us. We also had so much help
setting up, which is a great help to us,
so thanks to all that chipped in and
helped. We had some issues with
the PA this month and may have to
look in to buying a new one. Manny
is going to try and fix it if he can. We
did not sell much this month but that
is normal for this time of year.
This past Saturday the Cumbee
Center held a two-part event, from
11:00 am-4:00 pm was their family
fun day and from 7:00-11:00 pm
was an evening of good company,
good food, good music and just a
very enjoyable evening. Donations
are down at the Cumbee Center so
they were very thankful that we went
ahead and gave them $500 to help
advertise their event. I think the heat
during the day kept many people
away. Beth and I along with Sarah
(my grandaughter) and Katie (Beth’s
grandaughter) showed up to do our
part and volunteer to help. Manny
was nice enough to bring the 2 big
tents we have and set them up. I think
without the tents me and Beth would
have melted. Our station was the
inflatable slide and at first there was
no water in it and it was burning the
kids feet so they put some water on it and boy did the kids
start showing up. Sarah and Katie did such a wonderful job helping the little
kids climb the ladder and slide down with them when they were scared. I
was really proud of both of them. They even helped the ladies that took over
when our shift was up. Great job girls!!

At our last meeting we voted to have
a Fall Fling along with a place called
Stable View. They have a very big
farm and are having a really big event
the first Saturday in October. We will
not have our cruise-in as normal at
Home Depot, we are doing the show
in its place. I know we were told this
will be a very big event for Aiken and
it is a chance for us to make some
money for the Cumbee Center. Barry
and Cindi Oliff are going to buy the
trophies and dash plaques and what
ever else we need to make this show
a success. I want all our members to
please spread the word about the
show, because it is a little out of the
way. It will be held off of Springfield
Church Road. He is willing to match
what ever money I can bring in with
the cars so let’s spread the word and
help them to raise their donation.
Keep on rollin’!!
The last few club events that was voted on has been a big let-down for as many club members as we have. The yard sale / swap
meet was a very big let-down. With over 250 + members we had seven members not counting what Vickie was selling for the
Cumbee Center which they actually donated some very nice items. We did have a few club members drop in and a big thanks to
Chucky Cato (one of our new members) who donated a 1967 transmission two speed and some extra transmission tubes, which
did sell. But we did this for 2 weeks in a row with advertising in the newspaper and in emails to the club members and the turnout was just terrible. But on the brighter side the club members that did participate, we thank YOU!
As in evens up and coming, we are doing an evening cruise-in to historic Edgefield’s downtown square. We will meet at Aiken
High’s parking lot around 2 pm and will leave around 3 pm. This event is from 4:00-7:00 pm, so we are hoping to get some good
parking places by leaving early. See ya there!
As Vickie stated the PA system is on the blinks. I think it is in the wireless mike system that is close to 14 years old now. I plan
on going through it this week before Saturday’s cruise-in to see if I can get it up and running. If not, we will have to look at
purchasing a new one. Keep the wind in your face and the sun on your back!
Upcoming Events:
July 2: Aiken Horsepower monthly cruise-in at Home Depot, 2:00-4:00 pm
July 3: Aiken Horsepower monthly cruise-in rain date at Mitchell Shopping Center, 2:00-4:00 pm
July 4: NO CLUB MEETING

The first two years of Carroll Shelby’s Mustangs are
the most desirable to many Mustang purists. Those
1965 and 1966 GT 350s were light, simply styled,
and perfect for track work. But the later
1967 and 1968 cars offered more
fun under the hood and were the
machines of choice if you wanted to
win drag races.
For the first time, ‘67 to ‘68 GT 500
Shelbys came with 355-hp 428-cubic-inch big-block power under the hood. Car testers of the day saw quartermile time slips in the mid-to-low 14-second bracket—quick for the day. The Shelby Mustangs received more
scoops and flashier styling than the older cars to match the new-found power and torque. And the even
quicker KR (King of the Road) high-performance model was available in 1968 too.
Little-Known Fact: The 1967 Shelby Mustangs used Mercury Cougar tail lamps, but the 1968 models
used lamps from the ‘66 Ford Thunderbird.

That’s right club members, in case
you forgot – we are pleased to list
your automotive associated ads in the
newsletter. Whether it be a “for sale: or
“for want” just let me know in some sort
of written form, and I will put it in the
very next newsletter. It will only run once
(kinda like some cars I have owned) so if
you want it to run again you have to let
me know each time. Another reminder
– I don’t know what you have, what it’s
called, or what it is used for, so be sure
that you include all the pertinent details,
as to name, size, color, etc. and who and
where to contact.
