The next meeting of the Stichill Village Hall Committee will be the AGM on Wednesday 3rd June at 7:00pm. Anyone interested is welcome to attend The Lighter Side! My husband and I were sitting at a table at my 20th anniversary secondary school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken man swigging his drink, as he sat alone at a nearby table. My husband asked: "Do you know him?" "Yes," I sighed. "He's my old boyfriend. I understand he started drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear he hasn't been sober since." "My God!" says my husband. "Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?" Hugh O'Brien, Morningside How confusing is this? Why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? ODD! Hall Committee Chairman – Mr. George Anderson Secretary – Mr. Ian The cut-off date for item contributions in the next issue of The Stichill Hall News is Friday 26th June. Material should be sent to the Secretary at [email protected] Stichill Village Hall – Registered Charity Number SCO12362 Stichill News May 2015 The weather, so far this year, has been fooling us into thinking that we can look forward to sunshine all summer. I hope that it does not revert to type and give us a typical British summer. Summer Programme The events calendar will be reduced until the autumn, with Bowling and Ceilidh Dancing finished until September/October however a good programme of summer entertainment will be available. About Hume Community Association We are an informal group of residents who get together to hopefully promote Hume and environs for the benefit of all who live here. Everyone in the area is welcome to come to meetings, put forward ideas and help with projects and activities. We have two main events in the year;a) putting on a BBQ to welcome the Kelso Laddie and riders to Hume Castle in one of the Rideouts that mark Kelso Civic Week. We have been doing this for several years now and it is always popular and well attended. b) A Bonfire and Fireworks on November 5th. This is an historic event for Hume Castle but something that has only recently been resurrected in the village. We have all enjoyed putting this on for the last 3/4 years and hope it can continue. c) Recent projects have been, planting round the War memorial and last year planting daffodils in the cemetery. Other mooted projects are looking after the footpaths round the Castle and putting an information board in the Castle car park. Any other reasonable ideas for projects will be enthusiastically welcomed. Please watch the Hume Notice Board for details of the next meeting. It will probably be sometime in mid- late May to organise the Rideout BBQ, amongst other things. Everyone is welcome to attend, please ring the number below if there are queries.
