Mission
To promote self-sufficiency in target areas by providing opportunities and workshops for growth and
development. Bastion will be providing programs that enhance cultural integration, economic empowerment
while promoting healthy life skills.
Background
Bastion, Inc. was registered in 2002 in Tennessee. Our vision was that Every living being has an inalienable
right to have access to the good things of life under God. The vision of Bastion is to provide educational
opportunities for communities and to maximize these opportunities. The strategies for achieving this goal are: 1)
To provide the immigrant communities, particularly, women and youth with access to economic opportunity
through integrative strategies. The initiative has an adult literacy program that addresses the barriers of income
and opportunity arising from lack of knowledge and basic skills among youth and in the immigrant and less
privileged communities. 2) In order to be economically sound and effective any community needs to have the
ability to mobilize and use the available resources of its members along with external resources to foster
individual economic growth and eventual community development. The knowledge to effectively use these
resources for problem solving and poverty eradication is especially critical in communities where poverty,
illiteracy and HIV/AIDS are concentrated. Such communities exist here and significantly in Africa.Bastions, Inc.
strives to 1) Organize workshops to inculcate family values among immigrant communities to enable them cope
with the stress of integration into their new environment 2) Organize economic empowerment workshops to
bring together potential business entrepreneurs in the target communities with financial institutions such as
banks, realty, small business loan administration, insurance, etc. 3) Organize "training of trainers" workshops
and conferences 4) Provide bridges across the technological divide to enable immigrant communities live more
meaningfully in their new environment. 5) Organize HIV/AIDS awareness education. Bastion, Inc. is working at
the high school level to help student leaders in Africa provide education services and information that schools
and communities need to prevent HIV/AIDS and care for those infected and affected. 6) Help in curbing
transmission of HIV/AIDS among sexually active teenagers and consequently their immediate communities.7)
Take HIV/AIDS awareness to schools and universities in Africa. 8) Mobilize grassroots agencies organizations
to be part of HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns.
