Summary of Bud, Not Buddy

Summary of Bud, Not Buddy
Bud, Not Buddy is a story that took place during the Great
Depression in the early 1900’s. It took place in Flint, Michigan.
Bud was a foster child and was about to get dropped off at the
Amos’ house to live there. He was going to the Amos’ because
he was a foster child, his mom died and his dad left him when
he was young.
While Bud was at the Amos’ home he met his foster
brother, Todd. Todd did not want Bud to be there because he
wanted to be the center of attention. Todd was being mean
and blaming stuff on Bud. After Todd blamed Bud for punching
him, Bud got sent to the shed. After a few hours Bud escaped
from the shed and went inside to play tricks on Todd.
Bud didn’t want to get in trouble for playing tricks on
Todd, so he ran away and met his friend Bugs. After they hung
out a little while they decided they wanted to catch a train
going west. When Bud and Bugs were trying to catch the train
Bugs got on, but Bud got left behind. So he was alone now.
Since Bud missed the train he is now on his way top Grand
Rapids. While bud was walking down the road a car stopped
and Bud hid in the bushes. Lefty Louis got out of the car and
offered Bud food so he would come out. Bud took the food and
Lefty Louis was going to take Bud to his family’s house. When
they got there Bud showed them pictures of his momma and
dad.
Lefty Louis was about to take Bud to meet his “dad.” Lefty
Louis sent Mr. Calloway a telegram saying, “I have Bud and will
return him safely.” When they got to the log cabin Bud met all
the band members and his “dad.” Once Bud was there for a
little while they gave him a nickname as Sleepy Labone!
After a couple of days Jimmy gave Bud a recorder. Bud was
going to stay and live at the Calloway Station. He was going to
clean and do chores. Before Bud could live there they had to
get information from Flint. After that Bud shared his items in
his suitcase with Mr. Calloway. Bud was telling Mr. C. about his
life in Flint. While he was doing that he showed a picture of his
mom and rocks with important dates on them. While Bud was
showing that stuff to Mr. C. they found out that Bud’s mom was
Mr. C’s daughter and Bud was his grandson. Bud was now a
member of the band and stayed with Mr. C. for the rest of his
life.
