Batumi sightseeing
Lecturers
Batumi seaside city of Georgia’s Adjara region is the favorite spot both for locals and tourists during summer. Apart
from the beach of the Black Sea, one can find various ways
to entertain oneself.
Europe Square is one of the beautiful sites in the center
of Batumi, surrounded by central streets and exquisite
buildings. The statue of Medea was erected at the square
in 2007. Another beautiful square, one of the symbols of
Batumi, is Piazza Square, famous for its wonderful samples of decoration, mosaic and stained glass-art.
Batumi Boulevard is a well-known seaside park with the
territory of 8 km, where the colored Dancing Fountains
have been functioning since 1977. The old and the new
parts of the Batumi Boulevard are distinguished by fountains, wide promenade, alleys of magnolias and palm trees,
statues and modern art. Here is where a famous statue of
Nino&Ali us located. Batumi Botanical Garden is one of the
biggest and richest botanical gardens in the world, being
more than 100 years old.
Another visiting card for Batumi are colonnades, one of
them used to be a gate to the beach and another one still
marks the central entrance to the 6 May Park, which includes a dolphinarium, aquarium and zoo corner. Batumi
is also known for its towers – one of them is the Alphabet
Tower, dedicated to the beautiful Georgian alphabet and
decorated with 33 letters and another is the Chacha Tower,
which in fact is a fountain which periodically pours this alcoholic drink in order to popularize it among the tourists.

Summer School Batumi
“Unpacking Europeanisation in the South
Caucasus and the Black Sea Region:
Economic, Legal and Social Contexts”
15-24 July 2016
Description
Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (Georgia) as a
partner of the Jean Monnet Network “Developing the
European Studies in the Caucasus” is organizing the first
DESCnet Summer School, which stems from the annual
seasonal schools on EU Law in the South Caucasus (EULISC). The summer school is consequently dedicated to
European integration, policy and law.
The aim of the school is to unpack the various dimensions
of Europeanisation for the South Caucasus and explain
how it affects – or might affect in the future – the state of
relations in such spheres as legislation, political institutions, security strategies, social and cultural practices. The
school aims at developing a transferable model of analysing post-Soviet transitory countries on their ways towards
Europeanisation.

The Summer School will offer teaching on the following
topics:
–– Development of Minority Rights Framework in EU Law
–– The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, the ECHR, and
