March 3, 2015 Dear Competition Applicant, Congratulations! You have been chosen as a semi-‐finalist in the 4th annual South Florida Young Artist Solo Competition. Your submission was reviewed by a team of judges and you have advanced to the next round. Please read this email in it’s entirety as it contains very important information about what happens next. A schedule for the day of the competition is attached to this email. Please check the schedule over and confirm that you will attend this event by Sunday, March 15th. 1. Confirmation of attendance at Semi-‐Final Rounds All semi-‐finalists need to logon to www.notegarden.com between Tuesday, March 3rd and Sunday, March 15th and click on the application that is labeled SEMI-‐FINAL INFORMATION. There is no charge for this—we simply need to know that you are confirmed for this competition on March 21st . Please input the applicant’s full name, piece selection, composer and duration of your piece. If you have decided not to compete in the final round please email [email protected] with WITHDRAW in the subject plus the applicant’s name. If you have not logged on by midnight Sunday March 15th we will assume that your child is not able to attend. I will follow up with an email on Monday morning if I do not receive this application. 2. The day of the event please allow ample time to travel and park at our location. Since we are on a University Campus there are often Saturday morning events. Directions: From 595 exit University Drive SOUTH. Take a left on Nova University Ave). You will see the Dolphins Training camp facility on your right—a big white dome. Take an immediate right down SW 75th AVE. At the four way stop sign park in that lot and follow signs to the EPSTEIN CENTER OF THE ARTS. There are many lots around campus so if this lot is filled please find an adjacent lot to park in. Please check your emails the week before the event in case I have to update you about parking. The address is 3375 SW 75th Ave. Davie, Fl. 33314 Please use Google maps NOT MapQuest. When you arrive check in at the front desk and you will be given your applicant rating sheets to hand to the judges. When you are called to enter the room (1024 on the first floor) please hand the judges your applicant judging sheets and a copy of the music you will be performing. If you are a parent entering the room with the applicant please be advised only two people are allowed to accompany the applicant into the room. A piano accompanist is not required for the semi-‐final round but is required for all pieces in the final round that have standard accompaniments such as violin or cello concertos. We have worked this competition so that this round is efficient and parents and students will not have to wait around all day to play or for the results. A panel of three judges will give each applicant a number between 1-‐100. The students who have achieved the highest total numbers will proceed to the finals. 3. Tuning and Warmup: The piano will be tuned the day before at A-‐440 so please have your child tune their instrument in our lobby area to save critical time in the performance room. There are no warm-‐up rooms for pianists the day of the event in the Middle and High School Divisions! The only warm-‐up area is the lobby next to the box office at the far end for strings to tune their instruments. Please arrive warmed up. College Division Students can take turns warming up in practice rooms during the judge’s lunch at 12:30. 4. Finalists will be announced approximately ten minutes after each division finishes their round. Please see schedule for timing! All judges’ decisions are final. 5. The final round will take place in the auditorium and is open to the public free of charge. After the final round, a brief intermission will be followed by announcement of the winners and presentation of awards. All divisions will have at least one winner. If there is a tie between winners, the prizes will be split between the top two winners. 6. Schedule of Events for Saturday, March 21st.
