Information on Positive Minds- Specialist Grounded Group
Introduction
This is a 10 session group programme. It is funded by CAMHS fund for Improving Access to
Psychological therapies. The Grounded programme has been extended to 10 weeks to
include topics relating to understanding and promoting positive mental health.
Target Group
This group is specifically targeted towards young people who are struggling with
maintaining their positive mental health (e.g. their behaviour is affected by anxiety,
depression, phobias etc) or for young people whose parents, carers or siblings have
experienced past or present mental health difficulties, which have affected their
relationships with the young person.
Facilitators
The facilitators are Stacey Chambers (Fun and Families), Tracy Coring (Fun and Families),
Laura McCarthy (Fun and Families).
Venue and dates
Group sessions will take place at The Salvation Army – Youth Centre, Ladysmith Road, Off
Saffron Road, Leicester LE18 4UZ
The Group will start on Thursday 27th February and run until Thursday 15th May 2014 (with a
2 week break for Easter holidays)
Size of Group
We expect to have between 10-12 members
Aim of 10 week Grounded Programme
To provide an opportunity for young people who experience mental ill health to:
 develop understanding and skills in coping with their feelings ( especially anger)
 understanding how these affect their behaviour and making changes to reduce their stress
 improve their relationships and communication with other adults and peers both inside and
outside the home.
 Find ways to resolve conflict positively
Learning Objectives of the programme
By the end of the 10 weeks young people will


Be able to define what is meant by mental health ( healthy and unhealthy)
Be able to explain the different types of mental illness











Able to identify how mental ill health can affect their own and other’s lives emotionally and
practically
be able to recognise what a person with good mental health would be like
have a better understanding of why people get mental illness and how it can be treated
have gained strategies for coping with mental ill health in your family
have identified negative labels and be able to challenge these
have identified their strengths and challenges and built greater resilience
have an understanding of the triggers for their own and other’s behaviours
have identified links between feelings, thoughts and behaviour
have developed their communication, teamwork and negotiation skills
have developed strategies for coping with their own strong feelings of anger and understand
the causes.
have developed skills to avoid and resolve conflict with others.
