I'hone or write the Suffolk County E x t e r m i n a t i o n Commission, County Court H o u s e , Riverhead, N. Y. TO T H E VOTERS OF SUFFOLK COUNTY: This communication is published to advance the candidacy of Honorable John R. Vunk of Patchogue, for the office of District Attorney of Suffolk County. It is sponsored by a Com nittee of Suffolk County lawyers whose sole interest is to secure for the county the most efficient and economical administration of that office. Excessive cost of criminal investigation in the county can only be eliminated, and the prestige of the county, as a place where criminals are promptly punished, for the crimes they commit, can only be established, by the election of the most able and experienced man to that office. The District Attorney may f^tirly t e said to be the chief protector of the person and property of each inhabitant of the county, and of public decency therein, therefore each voter has a personal interest in the selection of such official, which can only be served by a due consideration of the qualifications of candidates without regard to party. The truism that experience makes for efficiency, and that efficiency is the basis of economy, applies to public office as it does to private business. No more eminently qualified candidate for any public office, in Suffolk County, has ever been presented, than John R. Vunk for the office of District Attorney. Judge Vunk came to Suffolk County in 1897 and taught in the public schools for a period of six years. He was twice elected to the office of • LAWYERS' COMMITTEE 'ISAAC R. GILMORE Justice of the Peace in the Town of Brookhaven. Prior to his admission to the bar in the year of 1908, he held the office of New York State Tax Appraiser for Suffolk County. In the year 1912 he was elected to the office of County Judge of Suffolk County, which office he held for a full term of six years. During the period of the World War Judge Vunk served as chairman of the county draft board, and he was the President of the Suffolk County Bar Association in the years 1917 and 1918. In 1932 he was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court. Since his admission to the bar in 1908, with the exception of the period he served as Justice of the Suppreme Court, Judge Vunk has been actively engaged in the practice of the law in Suffolk Coun- ^ ty and has long been recognized as one of the^^ leading members of the Suffolk County Bar, a n d ^ as one of the most able trial attorneys in the Second Judicial Department. During the per- < iod of 25 years last past Judge Vunk has presided as Judge, or acted as attorney for the defendant, in a majority of the important criminal ' trials held in Suffolk County. Judge Vunk's public service has always been distinguished by a fearless and able discharge of his duties. It is urged that every voter who wishes the maximum of security, in his person, or property, « or to serve the best interest of Suffolk Countj^ should vote for John R. Vunk to succeed him^i^ self as District Attorney of Suffolk County. E D W A R D A. D A V I S F R A N K J. M c M A N N LESTER M. E M M E T T J. L E O S A X S T I E N E D W A R D A- H A M I L T O N R.
