Pakistan National Shipping Corporation News Letter July 2016 Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), is a National Flag carrier enjoys a global presence in the shipping world with a fleet of nine (09) ships. It undertakes business operations in an internationally competitive environment, competes even for transportation of national imports and exports and earns most needed foreign exchange for Pakistan. PNSC fleet is a mix of double hull Aframax tankers, Panamax, Supramax, Handymax and Handysize bulk carriers, all of modern vintage, having a total deadweight carrying capacity of 681,806 metric tons. PNSC transports all types of dry and liquid bulk cargoes on several geographical routes covering almost entire world. PNSC has excellent business relationship with Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) and Private Sector Organizations. PNSC continues to lift crude oil for Pakistani refineries, black oil for Pakistan State Oil and actively participates in transportation of crude oil worldwide with its modern and newly acquired Aframax tankers. At present our younger dry bulk fleet is employed worldwide with first class charterers which has helped PNSC to achieve global stature and recognition in world shipping community as a reputable ship owner and operator. See Page “2” Pakistan National Shipping Corporation Prospects of Shipping Sector in Pakistan Pakistan National Shipping Corporation held a seminar on “Future Prospects of Shipping Sector in Pakistan” on 12 th July 2016 in Marriot Hotel Karachi, where business community, entrepreneurs and individuals from shipping industry were invited. The event was graced by “Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo” Federal Minister for Ports & shipping as Chief Guest along with Federal Secretary Ministry of Ports & Shipping Mr. Khalid Pervaiz and Commander COMPAK Vice Admiral Arifullah Hussaini. Chairman PNSC, Mr.Arif Elahi speaking to the audience emphasized on great potential of Pakistan shipping sector and encouraged businessmen, entrepreneurs and investors from private sector to invest in the shipping sector especially in the backdrop of recent exemption on custom duty & sales on ship acquisition. He also shared the efforts of Federal Minister, Ministry for ports & Shipping and PNSC team is getting exemption of Customs Duty, Sales Tax and Withholding Tax on import of ships and other floating crafts which were not possible without the help of Federal Government of Pakistan. He added that these incentives will not only increase the National Flag Fleet but will also encourage private sector to invest in the shipping industry. Chairman PNSC also highlighted the achievements made by PNSC. SHIPPING SEMINAR BY PNSC The Seminar was ended with Lunch, Chairman PNSC thanked to all participants for their presence. Safety, Quality, Professionalism Pakistan National Shipping Corporation Provisional (Un-Audited) revenue generation for the month of June 2016 was PKR 751 million through freight on lifting of Liquid Cargo, and PKR 494 million against freight on lifting of Dry Cargo. The total monthly revenue of PNSC was PKR 1.2 billion. During the month of June 2016, PNSC lifted 1,290,514 metric tons liquid and 164,732 metric tons dry Break Bulk/Bulk cargoes. PNSC also provided Slot/NVOCC services and transported 291 TEUs during the month. All the five Dry bulk carriers remained fully employed on trip /voyage / time charter worldwide. Your Navigator in the World of Trade Striving for excellence Gwadar To Be Declared Duty-Free Port Soon The government has decided to declare Gwadar a duty-free port, Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo disclosed on Tuesday 13th July, 2016, saying that incentives in this regard would be officially unveiled soon. Speaking as a chief guest at a seminar “Future Prospects of Shipping Industry in Pakistan” organized by the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), he said the port would be made hub of imports and exports and also provide transit cargo facility to regional countries. Besides, it would offer deep cut in port dues and other charges. Referring to recent exemptions announced by the government on customs duty, general sales tax and withholding tax on imports of ships and other floating craft, the minister said that although the ports and shipping sector was faced with many issues, the country was doing well with the development of new ports. However, he acknowledged that Pakistan’s shipping sector was lagging behind other countries, particularly because of no participation from the private sector.
