Breaks for
the Primary

Brain breaks are essential in
the primary school
classroom, for all age groups.
This document contains brain
breaks for junior infantssecond class.
These are quick activities and
games which
Help the children renew their
energy and concentration
As they transition between
lessons.
1. Do ten jumping jacks
2. Do ten full body wiggles
3. Jump left to right ten
times, then right to left ten
times.
4. Spin your partner in a
circle
5. Balance on your right
foot and pat your head.

16. Doodle break: Doodle in
your copy for one minutesee what you come up with!
17. Teacher says: (simon
says)
18. As If: (e.g. as if I would fly
to the moon today- idea is to
say something very unlikely to
happen)
19.Run on the spot
20. Laughter lounge: laugh
as loud as you can for 30
seconds
21. Reach for the stars: stretch
as far as you can and then
wriggle your fingers out like
stars.

23. yoga: get a little bit of space
and do two easy yoga moves!
24. Mirror image: children copy
what their partner does.
25. Shoulder to shoulder: the
children pick a body part and
put it together, e.g. palms of
hands, feet, shoulders.
26. Air spelling: call out words,
children must spell it in the air.
27. Coin drop: children close
eyes and count how many
cubes you drop into a jar.
28. Shake your Sillies out: do as
many silly moves as you can in
one minute.
29. DEAT: drop everything and
talk to your partner for one
minute.
30. Mime Act: children take
turns to mime an action and
others must guess the action.
