This Sunday we are introducing the 2017 Diocesan Conference that is going to be held in September.
The last conference was held back in 2009. The Diocese of Las Vegas has decided that it’s time to bring
it back. This year the conference will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 8 and 9 at the
Orleans Hotel & Casino.
What is the Diocesan Conference? The Diocesan Conference is a gathering of Roman Catholics,
organized by the Diocese of Las Vegas enabling us to come together to participate in a variety of events
that will help us better understand our Catholic faith. Included in the events are various speakers,
discussions and exhibits. There will also be the opportunity for social interaction among fellow
participants.
As the Roman Catholic Church of Las Vegas, we come together to celebrate with all who worship in our
Catholic community. Our elders, through their wisdom and experience, remind us from where we have
come. Our youth serve as a foundation for a future that we strive to make better. All together, we form
the Mystical Body of Christ, which is the Church.
While the Church is universal, we celebrate the various traditions of our local Church, recognizing that
we each bring unique gifts given by the Holy Spirit. While our world is quickly changing, our mission
remains the same: to reach out to all with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though we are young and
old, rich and poor, cradle Catholics and converts, we know that we are all united as one in Christ.
We hope that you will consider taking part in this year’s Diocesan Conference. It will be a wonderful
opportunity to have a deepened experience of our Catholic Faith and to interact with other Catholics of
our local Church here in the Diocese of Las Vegas.
The Filipino Community of our parish invites everyone to participate in a joint celebration observing
the 5th anniversary of the canonization of San Pedro Calungsod, the second canonized saint of the
Philippines, and the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of our Blessed Mother to the three children in
Fatima, Portugal. This anniversary celebration will take place on Saturday, May 13 at the 4:30pm mass.
This celebration will be preceded with a nine day novena of masses from May 4 to May 12. Please see
page 5 of the bulletin for the entire schedule. Everyone is invited to join in the celebration.
The St. Pope John Paul II Polish School of our parish invites you to come and take part in the Polish
Picnic on Sunday, May 7 from 2:30pm to 7:00pm on the school campus. There will be lots of Polish
food, water slides and games for children. You don’t have to be Polish to enjoy Polish food! Everyone
is invited. All proceeds will help the children of the Polish school.
David Kowaleski, our talented parish music director, has recently finished producing
a new album of religious music, entitled Gift of the Spirit. All of the music and lyrics
were composed and written by David himself. The vocals are beautifully performed
by Kristina Guerrero, a cantor at the 4:30pm Saturday mass and a member of our
Adoremus Schola. This album is available through online outlets, and on CD. The
CD is available in the parish office for $15.00.
Other CDs produced by David Kowaleski are Eagles Wing, which features vocalist Kim Orabona, and
The Vision, contain original music and lyrics written and performed by Harvey Fleming. All CDs are
available in the parish office for $15.00; two CDs for $25; or 3 CDs for $35.00.

LIFE TEEN: Our high school aged Life Teen program offers the youth of our parish the opportunity to gather
amidst their peers to explore the truth and beauty of their Catholic faith and grow in the love of Christ in a fun and
relaxed environment. We currently have two separate meetings: every other Wednesday, called LIFE NIGHTS,
where we explore different issues that are relevant to teenagers, and every other Sunday, called SOCIAL NIGHTS,
where teenagers gather to build and strengthen community through various social activities. All high school aged
teenagers are welcomed and encouraged to attend!
