fosteringpertherespectivestate'sDepartmentofAgriculture.Uponcompletionofthehold
period,thedogischeckedforinternalandexternalparasitesandissuedastateHealth
Certificate.The48hourholdperiodisverystrict,adogwillnotbeexaminedevenaminute
sooner.
Adogthattestspositiveforintestinalwormswillbetreatedatclinicpricing(about$100)and
willnotbeissuedahealthcertificateuntilacleanfecalisprovided.ForthisreasonadogMUST
bewormedtwicepriortotransport.Dogswithconditionsthatareconsideredtobecontagious
arenoteligibleforfosteringinthesestates.Theseconditionsincludeheartworm,sarcoptic
mange(demodecticmangeisnotcontagious),ringworm(afungalcondition),kennelcough,
enteritis,giardiaandconjunctivitis.Dogswhohavetestedpositiveforehrlichiaandlyme,who
havebeentreatedandareasymptomaticcanpassquarantine.
DogsMUSThavebordetellaatleast2weeksbeforegoingtoquarantine.
Thereareonly2isolationfacilitiesopentorescuesatthistime.Healthcertificatesmustbe
madeouttothereceivingfacility:

MedicalrecordsareeasilylostintransitsotheymustbefaxedoremailedtoAVCinadvance
oftransport
Ifyouarebookingareservationforaheartwormtreateddog,youmustsendproofofa
negativemicrofilariatestfromaveterinarianbeforethepetarrivesorthereservationwillbe
cancelled.Dogsonmediationwillnotbeaccepted.
Rescueswillalsoincurthe$100.00feefornotcancellingareservation.Ifadogshowsupto
quarantineandtheydonothavetheappropriateinformationneededforquarantine,thedog
willbeplacedintomedicalboardingandnotonlybeassessedthe$100.00feebutalsoa$35.00
perdayboardingfeeuntiltheappropriatepaperworkisreceived.Theywillbemovedto
quarantinethedaythepaperworkisreceived.
AVChasspacefor45dogsperisolationperiod.Duetothelargenumberofanimalsandrescue
organizations,dogscomingintothefacilityneedtobeclearlyidentifieduponarrival.Oneway
thiscanbedoneistotakeducttapeandwrapitaroundanyloncollarandwritethedog'sname
onit.Thiswillbedurableenoughforpuppieswhomaydecidetochewoneachother'scollars.
Therearetobenotagshangingfromadogscollar.Iftherearetags,theymustbewrappedin
theducttape.
AVCisintheprocessofupdatingtheirschedulingsystem.Fornowappointmentswillneedto
beanemailrequest.Pleasemakesureinthesubjectstates“reservation:(date)”.Intheemail,
it’sbestifallinformationcanbesentinoneemail.(ie.Amountofslotsneededforreservation,
Dog’sinformation,rescueinformation,andfoster/adopterinformation)
