On successful completion of the General Education Award in Maltese Language for Foreigners Level 1, the learner will be able to: Recite the Maltese alphabet with phonemic correctness in order to orally spell basic Maltese words Identify and apply the vowels of the Maltese alphabet, and consonants: ‘Konsonanti Xemxin’, ‘Konsonanti Qamrin’ and ‘Konsonanti Likwidi’ Build one’s vocabulary of simple Maltese words and manage the correct use of simple Maltese phrases that frequently appear in everyday social conversation State the days of the week and the colour of a given object in Maltese in an appropriate context Use the numbers from 'wieħed’ to ‘disa’ u għoxrin’ in Maltese in a given, varied and meaningful context Correctly use the numbers from ‘ħdax’ to ‘dsatax’ as well as the numbers using ‘is-sing li mhux l-artiklu’ (hyphenated numbers) Apply the correct imperative tense of various basic verbs tense in both written and spoken formats Apply the correct past, present and future tense of various basic verbs in both written and spoken formats Comply with grammatical rules of simple adverbs of time, place and quantity in written and spoken formats Analyse short passages to be able to extract essential information from the text Increase one’s repertoire of simple words related to particular themes in both written and spoken formats Use simple sentences to describe everyday events and activities related to a particular theme Compose simple phrases and sentences related to a particular theme in both spoken and written communication Identify and apply the letters ‘ie’, ‘għ’ and ‘h’ when writing in Maltese Use simple singular nouns when speaking and writing Compile lists of simple rhyming words for the purpose of reading and writing Name various typical ‘Partiċelli’ and ‘Partiċelli mehmużin mal-artiklu’ as well as their application in both spoken and written formats State the correct months and seasons of the year and use appropriate time phrases Use the definite article ‘il-‘ and ‘l-‘ in both written and spoken formats and the use of the euphonic vowel Manage the correct roots of Semitic verbs (mamma u għerq) in both written and spoken formats Apply the correct gender of nouns, adjectives and personal pronouns to create basic phrases Apply correct simple plural forms of adjectives when creating short basic sentences Create and construct appropriate formal and informal structured sentences that are frequently used in social conversation when describing oneself The National Commission for Further and Higher Education (NCFHE) deems this certificate to be at Level 1 of the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning. This course comprises study modules to which a total of 12 ECVET points are assigned.
