STRETHAM COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL
Welcome to Attendance Bear.
Congratulations to Rowan Class, the first winners of
Attendance Bear. He will be awarded each week to the class
with the best attendance record. We have launched
attendance bear to encourage and celebrate good attendance
at school. However, if your child is not well enough to be in
school, please do not send them in! We would like to remind
parents to phone the school office early on the first morning
of absence to inform us. If your child has had diarrhoea or
vomiting , they should only return to school 48 hours after the
last occurrence.
ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS and SCHOOL CLOSURE
Whilst the weather has been rather spring like recently, it is still the middle of winter and we would like to
re-issue the following information in case we have a wintry spell.
Why would we close the school?
We would close the school if we were unable to provide for the physical needs of the children at school (e.g. if
the heating broke down, if we had no water, if we had no electricity)
We would close the school if insufficient staff were able to make it safely to school. Please be aware of the
fact that the large majority of teachers and teaching assistants do not live in Stretham.
How would you know that the school was closed?
As soon as the decision is made, we will inform Radio Cambridgeshire which you can listen to on 96.0FM,
1026AM or on a digital radio. They will usually repeat the list of schools closed every 10 – 15 minutes.
They also publish and update the list of school closures known to them on their website
www.bbc.co.uk/cambridgeshire
We will also inform Heart 103 who will broadcast the list of closed schools.
We will endeavour to make sure that our school website is updated with news of any emergency closure on our
home page at www.strethamschool.co.uk ; there is also a central list at www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk
Members of staff who live close to the school will be at the school gates from 8.50 until 9.05 to inform those
who arrive that the school is closed.
Closing the school is not a decision that is taken lightly; our overriding concern is the welfare and education of our
pupils. We do understand that childcare arrangements are difficult at very short notice. However at times a
judgement will need to be made as to whether for example the roads are safe enough for staff to travel to
school. If the school is to be closed at short notice, we will let you know using the methods outlined above.
Thank you for your co-operation and understanding in this matter.

school.
