Breaking Bread A great attribute of the Body of Christ is the ability to break bread; that is, feasting on the Word of God. The act of Breaking Bread is breaking down the Word of God so that others might understand (consume, digest) it. The Word of God is to be “broken” and not cut. “Cut” refers to pre-prepared teaching, preaching rather than being led by the Sprit. An example of cut bread is daily devotional publications. Nothing wrong with reading them but we should also look for FRESH bread from God. Sometimes God will serve a large portion and sometimes He serves a small portion. Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread. Everyday God provides a fresh word for you. That word is fresh as long as God is in it. (See the example of how God provided manna in the desert. Some days the manna stayed fresh longer, some days it only lasted for that day). In order to receive the word God has for you, you must have a settled spirit. If you relax in your spirit, relax in your mind God can give you your daily bread. A person uses prepared bread (messages) when he or she doesn’t trust the Lord to provide a fresh word. God’s promise to provide bread (natural and spiritual to His people) Exodus3: 8: And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. Deuteronomy 8: 7: For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills; 8: A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey; 9: A land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass. 10: When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee. Example of Jesus breaking Fresh Bread: Teaching the Word Matthew 7: 28: And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Matthew 14: 15: And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. 16: But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. 17: And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. 18: He said, Bring them hither to me. 19: And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 20: And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. (The five loaves represent the five-fold ministry and the two fishes represent the Father and Son) Proverbs 9: 1: Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: 2: She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. 3: She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, 4: Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, 5: Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. 6: Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. (Seven Pillars represent the Father and Son and the five-fold ministry. Bread represents the Word of God and Wine represents the Spirit of God, consuming the two builds a house of wisdom.) Luke 24: 27: And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. 28: And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. 29: But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. 30: And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. Mark 4: 33: And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.
