Adaptive Sports is a non-profit corporation created to provide organized
sports for those individuals who are physically or mentally challenged.
We make every attempt to provide both facility changes and rule
changes so each player can participate in a chosen sport. Adaptive
Sports is not limited to any particular sport, but the organization and
adaptation of any sport must be approved by the Board of Directors first.
Safety of the players and the volunteers will be taken into consideration
first. Adaptive Sports' non-profit status permits it to solicit funds to
provide sporting activities at a nominal cost to the participants. The
organization uses these funds to acquire facilities, equipment, uniforms,
and professional assistance when required.

In-Stride with Therapeutic Riding, Inc. has been providing recreational
horseback riding with therapeutic benefits to children and adults with
disabilities since September of 2006. Our organization is run by
volunteers and funded primarily by donations, fundraisers and grants.
We also offer ground sessions. Ground sessions are for individuals who
are unable to ride but would like to experience the healing power of the
horse. Therapeutic riding benefits a multitude of physical disabilities by
encouraging individuals to use all of the muscles in the body, therefore
building better muscle tone. The heat of the horse’s body helps to
provide a natural state of relaxation to the rider’s muscles allowing the
body and mind to relax. The bond between a horse and a rider is
amazing and beautiful thing that is beneficial to individuals suffering from
emotional disabilities. Types of disabilities that benefit from therapeutic
riding include: Autism, mental retardation, learning disabilities,
developmental delay, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, MS, emotional
instability, ADD, depression, OCD, traumatic brain injuries, and many,
many more.

4-6 Year Camp Themes:
Week 1 ~ Curious Monkey Business: June 13-17 – Help Curious
George solve problems using things you already know. We will all have
fun playing with our new monkey sock puppets and painting with “scratch
and sniff” paint. “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” needs your help deciding
what he should eat next. How about a few games like “Don’t Pop It”,
“Monkey See, Monkey Do” and “Barrel of Monkeys”. Help George
collect all the bananas lost at camp. Don’t forget to wear your handmade
“I am curious” t-shirt on Friday!
Week 2 ~ Captain Jake Saves Mermaid Lagoon: June 20-24 –
Someone has stolen all of the mermaids’ pearls. Captain Jake believes
it must be Captain Hook’s pirates. Without the pearls the mermaids will
lose their lagoon. It looks like Jake will have to compete with Captain
Hook’s men in a ship race, sword fight and “Hook the Treasure” game.
Then it will be time to hunt for the hidden pearls. We will all take home a
treasure shell, a glittery fish and a telescope. Don’t forget to take home
your treasure box!
Week 3 ~ Scooby Doo is Back!: June 27-July 1 – Someone has
stolen all the scooby snacks! Can you find them? Join Scooby and the
gang on another scary, super fun mystery. Scooby and his friends are
ready to play a little “Zombie Tag”, do a “Mummy Wrap” and solve this
mystery! We will make “Ghost Holders” that glow in the dark and lovely
spider bracelets. I think the Scooby snacks might be hidden in the
Creepy castle! As long as we bring food to “Feed the Monsters”
everyone will have a great time. We will be making our own Scooby
snacks for a treat. Scooby is counting on us!
Week 4 ~ A Frozen Adventure: July 11-15 – Olaf is ready to take us on
an exciting adventure to visit an ice castle, make some frozen soup and
see the Rock Trolls. We will have fun playing with snow dough, ice
painting and having a snowball fight. Help unfreeze Anna’s “Frozen
Heart” in a special relay race. Continue the fun at home with your own
characters from “Frozen” including Olaf and a Rock Troll. I can’t wait to
see what’s at the end of clue hunt! This is the week to “Let It Go”!

Page 12
MON VALLEY YMCA (Continued)
Week 5 ~ Dinosaurs and Nature Trackers: July 18-22 – Learn about
becoming a Nature Tracker like Buddy, Tiny, Shiny and Don of the
“Dinosaur Train”. We will complete the four challenges needed to
become a real “Nature Tracker” while we have fun with the dinosaurs!
Part of our challenges will be to find animal tracks and learn about
conservation. We will find dinosaur bones and put them together just like
Paleontologists! We will all take home fossils, a painted “Dion magnet”
and a sun catcher with things we find in the woods. Playing in “Clean
Mud” will be so much fun! How about some Dino cookies for a snack?
Don’t forget to wear home your “Nature Trackers” bandana!
Week 6 ~ Tomorrow Land Space Adventure: July 25-29 – Ready, set,
blast off! Join the fun in this star packed space adventure. How fast can
you go in your jet packs? How about a space ship race around the
playground? We will learn about the surface of the moon. Let’s see your
skills on the “Astronaut Training” course. We can do a little “Planet
Hopping” and have fun in the “Asteroid Belt” of balloons. We can’t forget
to gather Miles and his friends to help us launch our rocket cups! This
camp is out of this world, with pictures to prove it!
Week 7 ~ Welcome to Bikini Bottom: August 1-5 – Join Spongebob
and his friend Patrick as the foil Plankton’s plan to get the Krabby Patty
recipe. Mr. Krabs wants to share his recipe with the campers this week.
Take home your own krabby patty and floating Patrick! We can soak
Plakton and dive into the money pit. I wonder what we’ll find.
Spongebob needs a break and wants to go home with you. How are you
at pineapple bowling? Patrick will be hanging around to help us do some
fishing. Let’s all dive right in! But don’t forget your diving suit!
7-12 Year Camp Themes:
Week 1 ~ Avengers vs Villains: June 13-17 – Your favorite Avengers
need your help this week to defeat a number of evil villains! You will
have to show your super skills by being as “Fast as the Wind” to block
deadly bombs with your Captain America shield! Your perception will be
tested when you use you “X-ray Vision”. You’ll need to think quick to
solve special Avenger puzzles. How about a “Hammer Throw” like Thor
or some “Hulk Smashing”? Can you be as angry as Hulk? Don’t forget to
take home some “Hulk Slime”! An awesome Avenger t-shirt will show
you are the ultimate superhero!

MON VALLEY YMCA (Continued)
Week 2 ~ A Clue Murder Mystery: June 20-24 – The most renowned
sleuths of all time are gathering at the “Y” to solve a most difficult
mystery. Our Counselors have gotten themselves mixed up in a murder.
We hope you will be able to help solve the crime! You will have to find
the weapons, finger print the suspects, identify a few body parts, and
even put together a skeleton! Bravery and skill will be needed to
complete the clue relay. Throwing hearts around is going to get messy!
If you can solve the mystery, you will be rewarded with a lovely framed
picture of yourself dressed in you undercover detective disguise.
Week 3 ~ Game Central: June 27-July 1 – Have you ever wanted to
be in a video game? This is your chance to see what it feels like to be
chased by ghosts while collecting power pellets! Maybe you would rather
throw a few angry birds to knock down buildings. Help Mario and Luigi
stomp the Goombas and search for coins. Your TMNT nun-chucks will
come in handy against Shredder’s ninja warriors. Take home a
Minecraft key chain and a Pacman magnet to go with your Angry Birds.
Whether you enjoy old school or new school video games, you’ll fit right
in. It’s all fun and video games this week, “Y” style!
Week 4 ~ Zombies Take Over: July 11-15 – Zombies are all over the
country! The bad news is they have been spotted on the “Y” grounds!
We have been asked, because of our extensive experiences with
monsters, to aide in keeping the grounds safe for unsuspecting
members. A briefing will be given every morning about Zombie habits.
You will be required to create a Zombie costume so you are able to
blend in if they appear. Physical and mental competitions like “Legless
Racing”, “Brain Toss” and “What do Zombies Eat” will be required. If you
are able to complete all of these successfully, you will be let loose on the
grounds to eradicate the Zombie threat. A film crew will record your
success or failure. Good Luck!
Week 5 ~ Snowmageden: July 18-22 – It is going to be a very hot
summer. There is a chill in the air. Snowflakes are falling and
“Snowgies” are bouncing around. What could be better than having a
“Snowball” fight? How about playing “Freeze Tag” or skiing to keep
cool? How are you at knocking over “Snowmen”? Maybe you’d rather
destroy a block of ice. What about putting together an igloo? You’ll have
plenty of activities to keep you warm this week while chilling out with your
friends.

MON VALLEY YMCA (Continued)
Week 6 ~ Wet and Wild: July 25-29 – It’s really hot and we all need to
cool off! Let’s try some “Drip, Drip, Drench”. We’ll have water relays and
a “Wet Feet” challenge. When we are not getting wet, we’ll be making
tie-dyed t-shirts, silly sand characters and a sparkling sun catcher. Of
course we need a good day for a “Slip-n-Slide”. Let’s end the week with
a “Water Hike” and a “Jellyfish” catch. Bring your swim suit and a big
towel! Be prepared to be drenched from head to toe!
Week 7 ~ Crazy Olympic Carnival: August 1-5 – Let’s all get into the
spirit of the Summer Olympics! Of course ours is just for fun with crazy
competitions. It might get a little messy! How about using a water
balloon as a shot put or maybe a pool noodle as a javelin. In our
swimming competition you won’t even need a swimsuit, just a ping pong
ball and a straw. We can always throw in some minute to win it games
for a little fun. Our closing ceremonies will include a few ribbons and a
lot of carnival games because everyone loves to win!
