Whole number registered, 29 ; average number, 23. We had no term of High School last Spring, owing to its being so late in the season before we could obtain a suitable teacher. We thought it better to have a term of twelve weeks in the Fall, and commence our term in the Spring early enough to have a term of ten weeks, and close before our large boys were needed at home to assist at the Spring's work. We consider that we have been fortunate in obtaining the services of the present teacher. Many of you were present at the close of the Fall term, and saw the careful training that was so perceptible in the exercises at their exhibition. The same result was as apparent in school at their closing examination, an examination which done credit to both teacher and pupils. We hope the citizens of our Town will still continue to slipport a High School, and give our scholars a chance to compete with those of other towns around us. We know they have as good natural ability. LIST OF STUDIES ESTABLISHED AS A T H R E E YEARS' COURSE, AT T H E HIGH SCHOOL. FIRST YEAR. Fall Term—Arithmetic, Grammar, Reading, Algebra. Spring Term—Algebra, Grammar, Physiology, Botany, 19 SECOND YEAR. Fall Term—Algebra, Chemistry, Philosophy, English Composition. Spring Term—Philosophy, English Authors, Zoology, BookKeeping. THIRD YEAR. Fall Term—English Authors, General History, Geology, Political Economy (Geometry.) Spring Term—Astronomy, Civil Government;, Physical Geography. COMMON SCHOOLS. In the main our Common Schools have been successful. In some, most excellent work has been done. In the most there has been a marked desire on the part of teachers and scholars to do thorough work. In a few there has been to much gone over without regard to the thoroughness. The discipline in the greater number of our schools, judging by their deportment, at the time of our visits has been good. REPAIRS AND IMPROVEMENTS. Much has been done this year in the way of repairs with the money raised, and still more is needed. Several of our houses need repainting, and in some, more or less plastering needs to be done. In No. 15 their house is in a bad condition. We have had to commence their school before the others on account of the condition of the house. Repairing this house (No. 15) is out of the question, they need a new house at once with a more desirable location. We recommend that the town raise for repairs and improvements, $150. TEXT-BOOKS. There is a uniformity of text-books in the most of our schools, but some of those in use are not up to the standard and a change in some of them will be desirable another year. 20 NAMES OF SCHOLARS NOT ABSENT FROM SCHOOL O N E - H A L F DAY.
