Fashion show: The prom fund-raising fashion show on Friday night
was a great success. With students from Year 8 to year 11 involved, it
was great to see all year groups pulling together for a common goal.
Ms Shortt, who organised the evening, said: “It was a delight to see
our Year 11 girls and boys being totally wonderful. They were
organised, resourceful and always looking for ways to help on the
evening. Even when they were nervous they dug deep and showed
resilience, commitment and amazing team work skills.
“The girls looked so beautiful and the boys were so respectful and
attentive of the girls it was wonderful and very emotional to see. “
The dresses were supplied by Cinderella Ballgowns
and the girls’ hair was styled by Lynn and Lisa from
Bliss Hair.
Thanks go to the singers and dancers who
also took part in the show, along with the tech crew
of Year 10 , 11 and ex students, as well as
members of staff and parents, especially Ms
Shortt, who supported the event.

Aerosols Ban: We would like to remind parents and students that due to the increasing number of reports we have
received of allergic reactions caused to students and staff through the use of aerosols, we have decided to ban the use of
these in school with immediate effect. Following a severe asthma attack in college, this ban has now been extended to
include perfume sprays. Please do not allow your child to come to school with an aerosol or perfume spray.

Dog Walkers: Can we please remind dog walkers who enter the College grounds to take every care to clean up after their
dogs. We have had reports of students standing in mess left by dogs. It is unpleasant for the students and also for our
cleaner who has the thankless task of clearing up the mess.
Football club: During our last half-term holiday, Cambridge United ran a holiday football club for ages 4 – 12 in the Sports
Centre from 9am to 4pm each day. It was so successful that we had the largest amount of children attending out of all of
their half-term fixtures, all over Cambridgeshire. This is now going to be repeated for the Easter holidays and for 2 weeks
in the summer holidays. See poster at the end of this Heron for details.
Sports Centre: Please contact Barbara Isherwood on [email protected] for more information or telephone
on 01763 242344 Ext.225.

Sports news
Awards evening: The Roy Burrell Awards Evening celebrates
excellence in sport in Cambridgeshire schools. Our Year 11
award winners have shown a full commitment to their sports
and have achieved excellence by either representing their
district, county or competed nationally in their sport. Our
winners included Sophie Pedder, Lotti Barrett, Hope Taylor,
Holly Anderson, Emily Cornwell, Lauren Goodyer, Oliver
Snelling, Tom Robinson, George French and Tommy Compton.
Netball: We had some fantastic netball matches at Comberton
this week :Year 7 - lost narrowly 10-14
Some of the BVC medallists at the awards evening
Year 9 - won 29-1 (super shooting from Libby Taylor and Lydia
Cornwell)
Year 11- won 22-3 (player of the match Izzy Holcroft)
Huge congratulations to the girls as the conditions were not easy - windy, wet and very cold!!
Year 9 and year 11 have their district tournaments next week so we wish them luck.
Football: Unfortunately the Year 11s weren’t able to build on their fantastic 7-1 win over Melbourn last week and lost
away to Linton in the cup 4-3.
It was an extremely close game and all the boys battled hard but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. A special mention should go
to Finn Chapman and Ollie Charlesworth as they stepped up from Year 10 to play following some last minute drop
outs. Ollie claimed one of our goals, while captain George French scored our other two goals with tremendous strikes from
distance. Rory Hunter also saved a penalty with an acrobatic save.
Training: The PE department has had to change football training nights for all year groups due to clashes with catch up/
revision sessions.
Therefore, Year 9, 10 and 11 training will now be on Mondays until Easter and Year 7 and 8 training will now be on
Tuesdays until Easter. All trainings will begin at 3:30pm and finish at 4:45pm.
Futsal: Bassingbourn Sports Centre has become the latest CUFC’s Futsal Development Centre.
Cambridge United FC’s 10 week Futsal Development School will launch here on 8th March.
This course will be a fantastic opportunity for children between the ages of 12-16 to gain an experience of Futsal delivered
by professional coaches. Players will develop through additional weekly training, which will enhance their technical,
physical & tactical development.
This course gives players the opportunity to progress into the Cambridge United FC system.
Only £60 for 10 weeks, players will receive weekly hour-long Futsal sessions delivered by Cambridge United FC staff.
Sessions will run in Bassingbourn Sports Centre on Tuesdays, except during school holidays.
News
As I am sure you are aware, the sexual exploitation of children across the UK has been in the news recently and continues
to be a concern. Dangers can come from any area of their lives, through friendship groups and people known to them, from
the internet and social networking sites such Facebook and Twitter. We also know that the best protection we can give to
young people is knowledge of the dangers so that they are aware and can protect themselves, as well as letting them
know where they can go for help and support if they are worried.
In order to do this, we are presenting an interactive play to all of our Year 9 and 10 pupils which will tackle the difficult
issue of Child Sexual Exploitation on Tuesday 8th March.
The play is performed by a theatre company, Alter Ego and is called Chelsea’s Choice. It focuses on Chelsea’s diary and provides an opportunity for interaction with the actors helping pupils to see the choices Chelsea has made and how she might
have chosen differently. We will provide an information sheet which has been designed with input from young people to all
pupils on where to go if they are worried about exploitation, feel forced into doing something they don’t want to, or if they
feel they are at risk, and school staff and other professionals will also be on hand to help with questions.
If you wish to discuss this further then please do not hesitate to contact me.
