GRANT’S 2011 CORNER TO CORNER TOURNAMENT. William Grant’s Family Reserve Scotch Whisky Founded more than 120 years ago, Grant’s Scotch Whisky remains an independent family distiller with a long-standing passion for whisky making. Based on the original recipe developed by William Grant, our master craftsmen select the finest single malt and grain whiskies to skilfully blend a whisky that is deliciously complex with a lingering, smooth finish. Like bowls, Grant’s Scotch Whisky is a tradition enjoyed for generations and one of which we are very proud. What Is Grant’s Corner to Corner? Welcome to Grant’s Corner to Corner Tournament. This year we want you to try a different angle on our favourite pastime. Now into its third year, Grant’s Corner to Corner Tournament is an informal game played once formal club competition play has finished. Grant’s Corner to Corner Tournament aims to preserve this relaxed spirit but also provide a standard format to allow competition between players and clubs on a national basis with the national final winner receiving $3000 cash for their club. How to set up the game – Arranging the Signage Ensure a complete green is available to allow games to be played from one corner to the other. The bowling mat is to be placed 2m from the near corner and the sign to be placed above the ditch in the far corner. HOW TO PLAY Grant’s Corner to Corner is played diagonally across the entire green and uses no jack. The objective is to play the bowl as close to the corner of the green as possible. Any bowl that is bowled, or knocked into the ditch is automatically removed from play. WEEKLY CLUB GAMES Elimination Heats: Elimination heats are fast games with ‘One person, one bowl’. The aim is to identify 12 finalists to play in the weekly round robin finals game. • Split into elimination heats so the green isn’t overloaded with bowls! • Divide players as evenly as possible into groups as follows: Total Players 12 or less 13 – 24 25 – 36 37 or more No. of Groups 1 2 3 4 No of players from each heat into weekly final No heat, play final with all players 6 players closest to the corner from each heat 4 players closest to the corner from each heat 3 players closest to the corner from each heat • Maximum 12 players per heat who bowl in a randomly selected order. • The top 12 players from the elimination heats play a ‘One person, two bowls’ weekly final. • Go straight to playing a weekly final game with ‘One person, two bowls’ if 12 players or less. Three End Finals Game: Play the weekly finals game down three ends. With ‘One person, two bowls’, it is a game that involves greater skill and strategy. End One • Player order is randomly selected and each player takes turns to play their first bowl. Each player then follows with their second bowl in the same order. • The 12 bowls on the green closest to the corner go through to play the next end (End Two). The remainder are eliminated from the finals, as are the bowls in the ditch. • Only players who have one or two bowls remaining in play continue on to play End Two. All other players are eliminated. • Players with two bowls remaining play two bowls; players with one bowl remaining play one bowl. End Two • Player order is the same as End One with each player taking turns to play their first bowl. Those players with two bowls remaining follow with their second bowl in the same order. • The closest 6 bowls on the green to the corner go through to the final round (End Three). The remainder are eliminated. End Three – Final Round • Player order the same with each player taking turns to play their first bowl. Players with two bowls remaining follow with their second bowl in the same order. • The bowl closest to the corner is the weekly club winner. • Enter weekly winner into the club final and add their name to the Grant’s leader board. • A weekly winner can participate in following elimination heats and weekly finals but cannot win again. If this occurs, the runner up (or next closest player not previously a winner) shall be awarded the prize and be named the winner to go through to the club final. Finals Games End 1 End 2 End 3 (final round) Bowls left in for next round 12 Bowls 6 Bowls Closest to the corner wins Club Finals End Of Season Finals Game: Once the 10 weekly winners are determined, a finals game is played with ‘One person, two bowls’ and is played under the Three End weekly finals rules to determine a club winner. The club winner will receive entry in the regional finals. The runner-up will play at the regional final if the winner is unavailable. Additional Rules for all games • Grant’s Corner to Corner Tournament is open to members or social affiliates of a participating club over 18 years of age. • Bowls are played from a mat two metres from the corner. • A player not participating in that game will umpire elimination heats or finals games. • In the event that one bowl comes into contact with another bowl during play, the bowls are measured where they finally lie following contact. • All other rules remain as per club bowls rules. • Any player taking part in club games agrees to the terms and conditions of the promotion.
