FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
“What Are We Going To Do Now?”
Greetings in Jesus’ life changing
name!
The title of this article this month
was prompted by a number of
folks that posed that question to
me after the tragic Supreme
Court ruling redefining marriage
to allow same sex unions among
other implications, including
polygamy.
Many believers active in the political process were disillusioned.
Some I talked to were almost in
despair. Why? Didn’t many
believers pray for these judges to
rule wisely? Surely they will not
undo hundreds of years of precedent, violate natural law, (still
takes man/woman to create a
child), and create a hostile
environment for Christians? Yes,
they did. Why didn’t God answer
these prayers? “What are we
going to do now?”, some have
asked me. I can only reply in
keeping with God’s Word. The
short answer to this question is—
We keep doing what we have
been doing, or should have
been doing. The late great Pastor E.V. Hill once preached a
sermon from Psalm 11:3—”If
the foundations be destroyed,
what can the righteous do?”
His reply—Pray, my brothers and
sisters, pray!
Preach, my
brothers and sisters, preach!
We are to call out to God, we
are to reach out to the unsaved
with the gospel of Jesus Christ!
We are to pray for those in
authority. Romans 13:1-4; I
Timothy 2:1-3; Acts 5:28-42
We are to obey the laws of the
land, except where man’s law
asks us to break conscience
with God’s Word.
Paul, the apostle reminds us in
I Timothy 3:15 that the Church
is to be “...the pillar and ground
of truth.” This is the tragedy of
our day that many “churches”
are abandoning the Word of
God. Many major Protestant
denominations are embracing
“gay” pastors and same sex
unions.
This adds to the
confusion in culture.

We must cry out to God for revival in the Church, and
in our own hearts, also. We must prepare to pay a
price for our faith. We must not allow the world to
define what love is, marriage is, or what sin is. We
must contend earnestly for the faith, which was delivered to the saints. (Jude 3)

OUR VISION (Where we are going):
CHRISTLIKENESS
Since nothing pleases the Father more than His Son, it is our desire to
be conformed to the character, power and love of Christ.
We believe this is God’s vision for man (Genesis 1:26; Romans 8:29).
Thus we measure success not by what we are before men,
but how Christlike we become (2 Corinthians 3:17-18).
OUR MISSION (What we do):
TAKE AS MANY PEOPLE TO HEAVEN
IN AS CHRISTLIKE CONDITION AS POSSIBLE
Our Mission is based on three key Scriptures:
Matthew 11:28-30: The Great Invitation
Matthew 22:37-40: The Great Commandment
Matthew 28:18-20: The Great Commission
OUR VALUES (What our community looks like):
Humility, knowing all spiritual progress is by God’s grace (James 4:5).
Worship that is passionate, reverent, expressive, and creative.
Prayer that passionately seeks the Lord and intercedes for others.
The Word and Spirit, merging biblical teaching with the power and
gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Relationships that strengthen, encourage, and test our maturity in
Christ.
Developing Christlike leaders—identifying, training and sending them
according to gifting.
Christ-centered Unity with other Christians, seeking to maintain the
“unity of the Spirit” until we reach “unity of faith” (Ephesians 4:3, 13;
John 17).
Outreach with sacrificial love to a world in need.

Pulse! Pulse! Pulse! A few weeks ago, my sister Rebekah Langeberg, Aaron Christianson and I had the
opportunity to attend Pulse Worship Conference at Blackhawk Church due to your support of the body of
Living Hope church. Pulse Worship Conference is a conference designed specifically to help worship leaders
to become more skilled in their worship and more passionate and devoted to God. Through this conference,
I learned both practical and spiritual skills to be a better worship leader.
During the first main session, I was reminded that God is a God of beauty. Jesus compared Himself to a
work of art, the bronze snake that Moses lifted up in the wilderness. However, later, a king of Israel
destroyed the bronze snake because the people had made it into an idol. In a similar way, we must be
careful to not allow our worship or anything else in our lives to become an idol to us. Otherwise, we turn a
good thing into a bad thing, distracting the focus of our worship and lives from reflecting our Creator as we
should. Also, if we spend all our time imitating something or someone we are not, we destroy our identity to
the point we do not even remember what we were created to be.
In the first worship I attended, the speaker exhorted us to connect greater skill to a greater heart for God.
Although the latter is more important, singing and playing well does have its place. She introduced me to
qu9te a few “tools” I could use to sing better. In addition, she exhorted us to steward our talents well, lead
with humility, and always loo0k out for those we are leading. She emphasized the importance of finding
your security in Christ alone, not in your abilities or the reactions of the congregation. Lastly, she encouraged us to be authentic and servant-hearted always.
At the second main session, the speaker talked of how much stories impact our lives. We tend to identify
with stories and find meaning in the lives of the characters of a story. I was reminded that my life is not a
random mess. We are all part of the big story, God’s story. The Bible is not a bunch of disconnected stories
but real historical accounts that interweave into the Great Story. Our purpose is to invite people to be a part
of the great story. Consequently, we should not relate the bible as a bunch of whitewashed stories but as
one story, the story of God, using a bunch of broken people to not only bring the gift of Jesus Christ into the
world but also showcase His glory. God uses our darkest and most glorious moments to complete His story.
During the second workshop, the speaker exhorted us to keep worship simple. My job is just to be used
by God to create an atmosphere to make it easy for you all to enter into worship. I am merely on the stage
to help you worship. Although no one can force you to worship, I was taught to do all in my power to encourage you to worship our glorious King together. I was taught to sing without thinking of myself at all, or even
about how you view me as I sing. My worship is to be solely directed to the Lord as I connect with you all
and respond to the Spirit as the Holy Spirit leads. Although I admit, good music is nice to hear, I was exhorted to sing songs that you all can catch onto easily. In addition, I was taught to not be afraid to derail from
routine in order to allow the Spirit of God to move.
In the last workshop, I was taught about how to work together as a team and how to address conflict.
The speaker taught us that even though there is a great temptation to talk to everyone else about what a
Herald of Hope
Page 7
person did, we need to talk to the person directly. Also, I was urged to listen with an open mind regardless of
my emotions at the time, especially because often both parties in a conflict have valid points. The speaker
taught to long to be more like Christ than to win an argument, be open to constructive criticism, be discerning,
and be sincere.
Through Pulse Worship Conference, I gained valuable insight on how to be more devoted to Christ and more
servant-hearted in my leadership in worship. I learned some practical advice on how to sing, was reminded
that God uses broken people to accomplish His purpose, and was exhorted to set the table for you, inviting you
to praise our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with me. Thank you once again for giving me the opportunity to
learn how to better lead you in worship of our majestic Savior by allowing me to attend this conference!
May God bless you and keep you blameless as we journey together to be more like Christ every day!

August! The last month of summer! Well not quite, but it feels like it! There always seems to be
certain anticipation, excitement and even an anxiety that wants to rise up this time of the year.
Vacations ending, back to school talk, getting ready for the fall programs, kids off to college, only 145
days until Christmas! All these things that seem to want to pile on us. But whatever the situation and
whatever the season, God wants us to be anxious for nothing and to put our complete trust in Him …
even the “end of summer”!
This summer has flown by so far. In July we had our very first “3 Days of Summer at Oschner Park”.
Actually we only had 2 days and were rained out the third. 3 Days of Summer was a children’s program that we began this year as an outreach for the younger children. The first day started with mainly kids from Living Hope Church and some of their friends, but by the second day there were more children coming over to see what we were doing and were participating. We are considering this as a possible annual event, and are excited to see what the Lord wants to do.
In Youth and children’s Church we have been using the Hillsong BIG program for the summer months.
BIG is a combination of videos, teachings, crafts, and games. The children and the workers, as well,
have been enjoying it. It has the theme of Faith, Hope and Love.
Our NGM Youth group has been very, very busy helping out in the 3 Days of Summer, as well as preparing for this year’s Vacation Bible School “Heroes of Faith”. They helped with the games and handing out flyers in the park, and have been memorizing VBS scripts, going on location for filming and preparing props all summer. We are looking forward to seeing how God is going to use this year’s VBS in
the children’s lives and in ours. We truly have been blessed with a great group! Vacation Bible School
“Heroes of Faith” is August 3rd thru 7th from 9:00 am to noon, and is for children 3 years old thru the
6th grade.
Coming up in September is our Fall Kick Off Church Picnic on September 13th after the morning
service and then Wednesday, September4 16th at 6:30 pm is the start of the 2015-2016 NGM
Wednesday Night Season for the Seekers, Survivors and Youth! Looking forward to another great
year!
If you ever have any questions or need more information about Next Generation Ministries, please feel
free to contact Pastor Dave Ekes. God bless and see you at VBS!

Catching the Vision—ICON Mission SE Asia Trip Prayer Recap
ICON Mission SE Asia 2015… We have all been back for about two weeks but still the people we met, the stories we
heard, and the places we have seen are fresh in our minds. This trip, for me, was one of catching a vision once again,
for the great need in our world for people to go, to support financially, and come alongside Christians, our brothers and
sister in Christ, around the world. But it was also a vision of the move of God around the world. Military dictatorships,
communist governments, poverty, natural disasters, or the strongholds of Buddhism and Islam cannot and have not
stopped those who desire to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. The gates of hell shall not
prevail against the
church of Jesus Christ! As the corporate body of Christ we can rejoice in Him, in His victory on the cross, and His soon
coming. We can be confident as we share the love of Jesus because He is for us!
Please pray for our friends in Guihulngan, Philippines whose church was destroyed in an earthquake 4 years ago.
They are still working to rebuild and meet in a building two sizes too small. They are such a blessing to be with, and
their spirit and heart even in the midst of the waiting and slow progress was a blessing. (UPDATE: Praise God! The
roof is complete and although much work still remains they are able to use the building for services, weather permitting.)
Please pray for Christians in Vietnam as they seek God for ways to reach out to the culture around them and as they
pray for revival in their nation. Praise God for some greater openness for the Church there...pray it continues and also
produces good fruit!
Pray for Thai Christians for wisdom and courage on how to reach their nation for the Lord despite the deep roots that
Buddhism has put down in that country. Pray for the many thousand Christian Pakistani refugees fleeing religious persecution living difficult and sometimes fear-filled lives in Bangkok (as well as refugees from Nepal and Myanmar, as
well). Pray that the United Nations and the international community will step up and do what they say they are there to
do—find permanent placements for these families.
Pray for the work of Christians in Cambodia as the country is still truly “getting back on its feet” so to speak after the
bloody and horrific rule of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. Pray for those seeking wisdom on how to present the Gospel
in a culturally contextualized way so that people can truly grasp the beauty of the
message of Jesus Christ. Pray
for those Cambodians who wish to compose Cambodian worship music for insight and inspiration and blessing.
Pray for the church in Myanmar, that it can grow and be blessed as it sets itself to pray for revival, for
wisdom, and
for provision. Pray for the believers there that they also, will have wisdom into ways to share the Gospel with Buddhists, as well as the Muslim population there. Pray for free elections and justice in the government arena, as well.
Pray that there will be great faith that God can meet all their needs...and that the church will band together and share
as a family the resources at its disposal. (Most of the families we met with live all together in one room the size of a
small bedroom.) Pray that we, the whole body of Christ, all may grow in the knowledge of Christ and know the blessing
of His Spirit operating in our lives. Amen! Thank you for your prayers and support!
With love,
CJB

GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION
Where will you spend ETERNITY? It only matters what the Bible says, not tradition, churches, religious leaders,
scholars, books, visions, opinions, or any other entity. It is the responsibility of each of us to seek out the truth and
to find the right way.
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to
destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way which leadeth
unto life, and few there be that find it.
What the Bible says about each of us:
1. All are sinners with imperfect hearts in God’s eyes.
-For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
-For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. Ecclesiastes 7:30
2. There is an eternal penalty for sin.
-For the wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23a
-He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not on the Son shall not see life: but the
wrath of God abideth on him. John 3:36a
-And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15
3. The Lord Jesus Christ paid the penalty for the sin of mankind.
-But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
- … “Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood. Revelation 1:5b
What the Bible says we must do:
4. Repent, turn from sin and turn to God.
- … “except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luke 13:3
-Testifying both to the Jews and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our
Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 30:21
5. Believe on and receive the Lord Jesus Christ, and Him alone, as your personal Lord and Savior.
-Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
-That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God has raised him
from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9
