TPSD 3rd grade Math Syllabus 3rd 9 Weeks Unit 9: Understand Fractions as Numbers Unit 10: Fraction Equivalence and Comparisons Unit Summary: In this unit, students will divide regions into equal parts. Additionally, students will understand the whole while looking at fractions, fractions less and greater than 1 on a number line. Students will learn how to measure length to the nearest fourth inch and show the data on a line plot. Unit Summary: Students will learn how to use equivalent fraction models in order to understand how to use the number line with fractions. Students will also use models to compare fractions with same denominators and benchmark fractions. Lastly, students will learn how to compare fractions by using a number line. Performance Skills: ❏ read and write a unit fraction ❏ use a fraction to represent multiple copies of a unit fraction ❏ identify a whole by seeing a part ❏ represent fractions on a number line ❏ represent fractions equal to or greater than 1 on a number line ❏ measure the nearest fourth inch and show the data on a line plot ❏ measure to the nearest half inch and show the data on a line plot Performance Skills: ❏ find equivalent fractions that name the same part of a whole ❏ use number lines to represent equivalent fractions ❏ compare fractions that refer to the same size whole and have the same denominator by comparing their numerators ❏ compare fractions that refer to the same whole and have the same numerator by comparing their numerators ❏ use what I know about the size of benchmark numbers to compare fractions ❏ compare two fractions by locating them on a number line ❏ use representations to find fraction names for whole numbers ❏ construct math arguments using what I know about fraction Academic Vocabulary/Words to Understand: fraction, unit fraction, numerator, denominator, nearest fourth inch, line plot, nearest half inch Academic Vocabulary/Words to Understand: equivalent fractions Note-This is NOT an all inclusive list of terms. Note-This is NOT an all inclusive list of terms. Unit 11: Solve Time, Capacity and Mass Unit 12: Attributes of Two Dimensional Shapes and Solving Perimeter Unit Summary:In this unit students will learn to tell time using the minute hand. They will also learn how to measure units of time with elapsed time using word problems. This unit also contains concepts dealing with estimating and measuring liquid volume and mass. Unit Summary:.Students will learn the attributes of two dimensional shapes by describing quadrilaterals and classifying different shapes. They will learn how to analyze and compare quadrilaterals and solve word problems involving finding the perimeter. Performance Skills: Performance Skills: ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ show and tell time to the minute using clocks measure intervals of time in hours and minutes use representations to solve word problems about time use standard units to estimate liquid volume use standard units to measure liquid volume use standard units to estimate the masses of solid objects use grams and kilograms to measure mass of objects use pictures to help solve problems about mass and volume ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ ❏ Academic Vocabulary/Words to Understand: identify quadrilateral and use attributes to describe them. classify shapes in several ways based on how they are alike and how they are different analyze and compare quadrilaterals and group them by attributes find the perimeter of different polygons find the perimeter of polygons with common shapes find the unknown length of a polygon by using a known perimeter understand the relationship of shapes with the same perimeter and different area understand the relationship of shapes with the same area and different perimeters elapsed time, A.M., P.M., time interval, capacity (Liquid Volume), milliliter (mL), Liter (L), mass, gram (g), kilogram (kg) Academic Vocabulary/Words to Understand: Note-This is NOT an all inclusive list of terms. polygon, side, quadrilateral, angle, vertex, trapezoid, parallel sides, parallelogram, rectangle, right angle, rhombus, square, concave, convex, perimeter, equilateral triangle Note-This is NOT an all inclusive list of terms.
