" Titled - GEORGE SAWYER
Mr. George Sawyer , a former resident of con. 16 , Greenock , passed away at his home near
Wiseton , Sask. after a lengthy illness from stomach trouble . The remains , which were brought east
by his son George A. ,arrived at Pinkerton station Friday , May 13th. , and were taken to the home of
his son Mr. Thomas Sawyer , con. 14 , Greenock .The funeral , which took place to Purdy's
Cemetery the following day , was very largely attended , and was conducted under auspices of the
Orangemen , of which order the late Mr. Sawyer had been a faithful member .The late Mr. Sawyer
was born near the village of Gilford , Simcoe Co. ,in the year 1853 . In 1872 he married Mary Jane
McLean , of the same County , Who predeaceased him nine years ago . Of a family of five sons and
two daughters , only ywo three sons survive him ; namely Thomas , of 14th. con. Greenock ; George
A. of Wiseton , Sask. , and William J. of Regina . He is also survivedby two sisters and one brother ,
Mrs. W.T. Stewart , of Greenock , Mrs. T. Stewart and Mr. Richard Sawyer of Bradford . In the
year following his marriage the late Mr. Sawyer and his wife came to Greenock and took up their
abode on the 9 farm now occupied by Mr. Harvey Clark , 16th. con . , where he continued to reside
until he went West in 1898 . He took up a homestead near Outlook , Sask. , but later sold it and
bought half a section near Wiseton . He spent the winter of 1905 and 1906 in Greenock , returning
west each spring , and since then he spent a short time in Vancouver . Returning to Saskatchewan
he built he built a home for himself near that of his son George , where he resided until the time of
his death . Being a good carpenter , he followed that trade during most of the years he spent in the
West . "
George farmed on Lot 7 , Concession 16 , Greenock Township , Bruce County , Ontario in 1880 . He
resided in Bellegarde , Assiniboia District , Manitoba in 1901 . It seems George went west by himself
at this time since his wife died and family were still in Greenock Township , Ontario .
George And Mary were seperated in 1910 . Their marriage was witnessed by Mathew Kneeshaw .

Jack and Alice Campbell
Jack was a vetern, coming into the district in 1919 with theother veterans seeking
land. He Took up the W 1/2 15-80-8. Jack was raised in Ontario before joining the
Services. Alice came out from England in 1923 to visit an old friend Mrs. Al
Grenache, with whom she had gone to teacher's college. Before the holiday was
over she had met Jack and they were married. The Campbells farmed for many
years until Jack passed away in 1957. Alice rented the land for a few years, then
sold to the Caryk brothers and bought a house in Spirit River. After living there a
year or two she retired to New Westminster where she still resides.

There died in Lefroy on Monday Nov.,17, an old resident of Cookstown, John B. McLean, in his sixtyfifth year, after one and one-half year's poor health. Deceased was a farmer and lived on lot 19,
concession 6 Innisfil. He is survived by his
wife,(nee Adelaide Beatty), four sisters, Mrs. John Anderson,Shelbourne; Mrs. Jake Holt, Ivy; Mrs.
James Campbell, Cookstown; Mrs. Alex. McFadden, Toronto, and his family, Mrs. Wellington Miller of
Pocotello, Idaho; Clifford and James of Barrie, and

Titled :- THOMAS SAWYER
One of the community's most respected elder residents , Thomas Sawyer , passed away at his
home on the 14th.
concession of Greenock Township on Friday ,
June 18th., in his 82nd. year . Mr. Sawyer had been infailing health for several months. Born near
Gilford , in Simcoe County , he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Sawyer . He was in his
infancy when the family came to Bruce County , and took up farming on the 16th. concession of
Greenock . The
subject of this sketch attended the school district , S.S. No. 7 , and later assisted on the home
farm . In 1906 he
was married Mary Keyes , and they began farming on lot 11 , con. 14 , Greenock , and where
they resided ever
since . Mr. Sawyer was deeply interested in the welfare of his township and took an active part in the
municipal
life . For several years he was
a member of the township council , while for more than 20 years he served as secretary of the
school board in his
home section . He was a member of the Anglican Church , Pinkerton , and a member of the COF
lodge in the
same village . Of genial a nature , Mr. Sawyer was widely known throughout the township , and in the
nearby
centres of Cargill , Pinkerton and Paisley , and where news of his passing was received with
sincere regret .
Besides his wife , Mr. Sawyer is survived by one daughter , Vera , at home ; and five sons , Alfred
and Robert , of
the Pinkerton section ; Stuart , on the home farm ; Gordon of Toronto , and Jack , of Owens
Sound . Two brothers
also survive ; George Sawyer at Wiseton , Sask. and William Sawyer at Regina . The
funeral was held on Monday afternoon , with services at St. Paul's Anglican Church ,
Pinkerton ; conducted
by the rector, Rev. Frank Tomkinson of Paisley . Interment was in Purdy's cemetery . The
pallbearers were
Messrs. Emerson Stewart,
Howard Hettrick , Wilired Houston , William McFadden , Ogle Needham and William Keyes .

MRS. THOS. SAWYER DIES
Probably the oldest resident of Greenock Township , Mrs. Thomas Sawyer died Wednesday of last
week at the home of her son , Robert , of Pinkerton . In her 94th. year , she had enjoyed fairly good
health until this past summer , and had been bedfast since .
Mrs. Sawyer was the former Mary Elizabeth Keyes , the last surviving member of this family of 13 of
the late John Keyes and Elizabeth Saunders Keyes . Her parents came to Greenock Township in
1854 , to the farm now occupied by Glen Sawyer , on the 16th. concession , and there she was born
January 21 , 1872 . She attended Bradley School , and in January , 1906 ,was married to Thomas
Sawyer , who had come to Greenock as a baby .
Following their marriage , they farmed on the 10th. concession until November , 1918 , when they
removed to the 14th. concession . There Mr. Sawyer died in 1954 , and Mrs. Sawyer went to make
her home with her son , Stewart , until about a year ago , since when she had been with her son
Robert , at Pinkerton .
Mrs. Sawyer was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church , Pinkerton , and for years was an
active member in the women's organizations .
Surviving are one daughter , Mrs. Vera Sawyer , of Pinkerton , and five sons , Alfred and Gordon , of
Paisley ; John , of Owen Sound ; Stewart and Robert , of the Pinkerton district . There are 20
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren .
The funeral took place Saturday , with service in the Stoddart Funeral Chapel , conducted by Rev.
Douglas Madge . Burial took place in Purdy's Cemetery .
Pallbearers were Harry Metcalf , William Keyes , William McFadden , Norman Wilson , Ogle
Needham and Wilfred Houston . The floral tributes were born by six grandsons . More About

Death came with shocking suddeness to the home of Mr. Alex Carr on Saturday , removing the
beloved wife and
mother after only three days of feeling serious illness .
Mrs. Carr had not been feeling well and had planned to go to Toronto on Saturday to consult a
specialist . On
Tuesday she was taken to bed and shortly after midnight on Friday she passed away . Her death
was a sad blow to
her husband and children , the youngest of whom is only four years old . Mrs. Carr whose maiden
name Ida Mae

Mrs. Edna M. Miller, 82, 502 N. Main, long time Pocatello resident and business woman, died at St.
Anthony Community Hospital Sunday after a short illness.
Born June 27, 1890 at Kingstone, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James
MacLean. She spent her early life in Canada and on Sept. 27, 1911 was married to Wellington Miller
at Toronto, Canada. They came to Pocatello in 1913 where Mr. Miller and a brother operated a meat
market. The business has operated at the same location since that time. Mr. Miller died here Oct.
16, 1958 and Mrs. Miller operated the store until her recent illness. She was a member of the First
Congregational church and of Radiant Chapter No. 61, Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include one son, Clifford W. Miller, Pocatello; a brother, Merlin MacLean of Toronto,
Canada; a sister, Hazel MacLean of Barry, Ontario, Canada; a granddaughter, Mrs. Ronald
(Diane) Friske of Northbrook, Ill.; two grandsons, Wellington Earl and Richard Bruce Miller; and
one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the First Congregational church with the
Rev. Armin Munz officiating. Ritualistic services will be conducted by Radiant Chapter No. 61,
Order of Eastern Star. Burial will be in the family plot in Mountainview Cemetery under the
direction of Downard Funeral Home.

early years in Beeton and married Edna McLean in Toronto Sept. 27, 1911. In 1913 they moved to
Pocatello. He and his brother, Ash, operated a meat business for many years, and following his
brother's death, Mr. Miller continued in the operation adding a grocery line to the business, which he
was operating up to the time of his death. Until 1940 it was known as the Miller Brothers Market.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church and Spry Lodge 385, AF and AM of Beeton,
Canada. Survivors are his widow, a son, Clifford W. Miller of Pocatello, two nephews and a niece, and
one grandchild. Mr. Miller was the last surviving member of his family. Four brothers preceded him in
death.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Downard chapel with the Rev. Frank M. Blish of
the First Congregational church officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Mountainview cemetery
under the direction of the Downard Funeral Home
