Dear Parents
It was good to see a number of you at cricket matches against Caldicott this week, in
conditions far more suited to the rugby season. There were some excellent matches too,
with some good wins, and some good second places! One of my favourite games was the
3rd team victory. We had bowled out Caldicott for 56, which looked like an easy target until a
collapse saw us at 39 for 9 with 12 overs to spare. In a thrilling, nerve-biting match, which
even drew the umpire’s attention from the 1st team match, our last two batsmen made the
runs, with a 4 to finish. The attitude displayed by both teams summed up the vast majority of
our games, which were played in just the right competitive spirit.
It was great to have Alastair Cook visiting yesterday, fresh from scoring his century with
Essex. He was once again superb with the boys and his hand must have been hurting after
signing all their bats and balls (and one handbag apparently!)
We look forward to the Bedford Regatta this weekend. Some Prep School boys will be
involved in the Regatta today, helping out at the start, and I hope I get the chance to meet up
with you on the river bank if you are able to make it. Please see below for further details.
Summer exams started yesterday for Y6 and Y7 boys, and we wish all boys taking exams all
the best for next week.

YEAR 4 Y4 PGL Trip, 19th - 22nd May
The Y4’s PGL trip to Caythorpe Court is fast approaching. Please see the letter ​here for the

YEAR 5
Y5 De Parys Avenue Field trip, Friday 12th May
On Friday 12th May the Y5 boys will be doing some field work in De Parys Avenue as part of
their latest topic in Geography. The work will take place during the school day just for an

There are still places available on Bedford Prep School’s pre-Christmas ski trip to Austria.
Open to all boys currently in Y5, 6 and 7, the trip costs £915. Places are limited, so to secure

Our annual Guys’ and Guardians’ Evening has been organised for Monday 22nd May from 7
- 8.30pm in the EMH. This is an information evening for both boys and parents / guardians

ALL PS YEAR GROUPS Science and DT Family Challenge, Thursday 18th May
Boys in Y5-8 and their families are invited to take part in a Science and DT Challenge on
Thursday 18th May from 7.30pm with teams competing in a number of fun activities with
prizes for the winners. For further information please see ​here and to enter a team please
complete the​ ​form​ as soon as possible. There is currently space for three more teams.
‘The Inky Blot’ Cover Design Competition
Can you design a front cover for ‘The Inky Blot’?
This is a new, in-house publication which will feature some of the best of the boys’ creative
writing, from both inside and outside the classroom. We are now looking for a fabulous front

Sainsbury’s Vouchers
The Prep School are collecting Sainsbury’s vouchers. Sainsbury’s issued their last vouchers
last week so if you have any lying around at home please do bring them into school.
Bedford Regatta, Saturday 6th May
We hope that many parents will gather with picnics along the riverbank to support the school
crews at the Bedford Regatta today. The Regatta Enclosure, located on the south side of
the suspension bridge, will be the rallying point for the school. The Friends of Bedford
School Boat Club (​FOBSBC​) will be running the barbeque. We look forward to seeing you
there.
Northamptonshire County Cricket Club v South Africa, Sunday 21​st​ May
The OB Club would like to invite parents to a special cricket match between
Northamptonshire County Cricket Club and South Africa. This will be an important match
before South Africa take on England in a series of One Day Internationals and a full Test
Match. The cost of the day is £45 which includes the match and our own private area where
we will be served delicious refreshments. We will also have the opportunity to catch up with
the Captain of Northamptonshire OB Alex Wakely (96-07) and some of the other players.
