PART 1: Joseph Sojourner—My Story INTRODUCTION A great movie presents a great story. It draws us in, captures us . . . inspires us. Too often, our own stories feel small by comparions. Our daily lives don’t seem as infused with meaning and power. They don’t feel like epic adventures. But our lives can become greater if we connect them with God’s story. What does it look like when God creates meaning in our circumstances so that we can impact others? DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. What is one of your favorite stories from a book or movie? What do you like about it? 2. Why is it sometimes difficult for people to share their stories? 3. What does it look like to connect our stories with God’s story? Why is it important? 4. How can we be a church where people like Ann feel safe to share their stories? 5. During the message, Joseph said that we have an invest and invite model for our church. What does that mean to you? 6. What event or experience from your past do you need to start using in the present to impact the future? How can you begin to do that? In what ways can this group support you? MOVING FORWARD Untold stories not impact no one. That’s a huge missed opportunity. But when we connect our stories with God’s story and then share them with others, our stories can have a remarkable influence. Look for opportunities to share your story. Create environments where others feel safe to share their stories with you. CHANGING YOUR MIND Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29
