Get your School Involved! “Be the change you wish to see in the world” Mohandas Ghandi” Fashion for Free Education Bring Fashion Week to your city or town! The Aqulifer Club at Charlotte Country Day School did and now two Tanzania orphans have a home and a school as a result! This is a fun and easy way to get your friends and classmates involved in an extracurricular activity that brings awareness to and provides resources for many deserving orphans in sub-Saharan Africa. As a result of the spring 2006 and 2007 fashion shows put on by the service club, they raised $4000 that provides sponsorship for two children to go to boarding school (giving them a home and education at the same time), buying a washing machine for the Nkoaranga orphanage and buying school supplies for the Fikiria Kwanza Academy in Tanzania. What they did: • • • • • Invite all friends and classmates to a friend’s house or school assembly area Charge $5 at the door/ entry fee Bring in clothes you can part with (get your parents’ permission first) Members of the service club were the models Each item has a maximum price of $10 dollars For more information or help please email [email protected] 2Cents Program Spare change that creates a real change! Set a timeframe ( a month, semester or year) and have your class, club or friends bring in all the spare change they can find to buy books for children in Tanzania. Each book cost roughly $1 USD, so for 100 pennies, 25 nickels, 10 dimes, or 4 quarters you can be buy a book for an orphaned child in sub-Sahran Africa! We can even arrange a pen-pal partnership so you can learn more about the children and their lives in Tanzania and they too can learn about what your life is like here in America. Mrs. Brady’s 2nd Grade Class in Charlotte collected change for a month and a half and raised $206.01 and collected over 200 additional books that they had grown out of. Well done!
