Our Promise – A Comprehensive Review
The admissions team at the University of Arizona realizes that personal
excellence can and should be evaluated by more than just academic
achievement. Through our Comprehensive Review process, we are expanding
access to students who will bring unique life experiences and personal
achievements to our campus community.
Admission and scholarship award decisions are driven by comprehensive
review. Every application may be reviewed by up to two different reviewers
before a final decision is made. This process allows us to consider more than
a student’s academic profile. Factors such as class rank, strength of curriculum,
performance in curriculum, grade point average in required core academic
courses, and ACT and/or SAT test scores will be considered. Other factors may
include leadership, service, work experience and extracurricular activities;
personal characteristics, attributes, and talents; and the ability to benefit from
and contribute to a diverse and challenging learning environment. We are
interested in learning more about the student’s preparedness, motivation, and
potential in the unique context of their experience. Applicants will have the
opportunity to include a brief statement to share any discrepancies in their
academic record or any additional information they would like to include.
Through this process, we are making more comprehensive and individualized
admission and scholarship decisions.
In recognition of the high level of academic aptitude and course work
competency demonstrated by many Arizona students who seek admission
to UA, we also offer Assured Admission. Students may earn admission to
UA through the Assured Admission process if they are an Arizona resident,
attend a regionally accredited high school, rank in the top 25 percent of their
graduating class, and have no course work deficiencies as prescribed by the
Arizona Board of Regents (see table on page 6).
Arizona applicants who do not meet the Assured Admission criteria and all
applicants not considered Arizona residents will be considered for admission
through comprehensive review.
Students who take the General Education Development Test (GED) must submit
official test scores and meet the minimum requirements to be considered for
admission. Students who took the Fourth Test Series between 2001-2013 must
earn an average of 500. Students who took the Fifth Test Series beginning
2014 to present must earn an average of 680 AND each content module
requires a minimum score of 170.
Home-schooled students will be considered on the basis of portfolio/course
work, comprehensive review and SAT Reasoning Test or ACT scores.
Notes
Some programs or colleges may require additional application information
and/or admission requirements. If students apply to those programs and do
not meet the additional qualifications, they will be considered for admission in
another program for which they may qualify. For a complete program listing,
please visit www.arizona.edu/degrees/undergrad-degrees.php. Estimating the
likelihood of admission is very difficult without considering the complete
application file. Thus, it is crucial for applicants to carefully complete the
process by providing timely, comprehensive and accurate information.
A separate application is required to enroll in the SALT Center. The
SALT Center provides individualized academic support by offering a
comprehensive range of services for students with learning and attention
differences. There are additional fees to use SALT Center services. You must
apply to both the University and to the SALT Center in order to be considered
for admission to the SALT Center. Due to the high demand of these services,
it is also recommended that you submit your application to the SALT Center
at the same time or very soon after submitting the UA application. For more
information, call 520.621.8493 or visit salt.arizona.edu.

calculation, including repeated courses.
Admission decisions will be released the semester before you intend to enroll
once your application is complete. For example, if you apply for fall 2015, a
decision will be made in spring 2015.
This application packet is for freshman and transfer applicants to the University of Arizona who are U.S.
citizens or permanent residents. If you are applying for readmission to UA, or as a non-degree-seeking

residents or $75 for non-Arizona residents. This fee
is nonrefundable and nontransferable. Applications
are valid for one term only. Fee payment options
include check, money order, credit card, or eligible

?
Questions
you might ask
1. Will I be considered for admission?
Yes. We review every complete
application, provided all required
documents/materials are submitted
by the appropriate deadline. Please
visit admissions.arizona.edu/apply
or call 520.621.3237 for more details.
2. What are the different ways I can apply?
As an undergraduate degree-seeking
applicant, there are two ways you can apply for
admission. The preferred method for you to apply
is online by visiting arizona.edu/future-students. (The main advantages
of applying online include immediate submission, electronic
acknowledgement, and the potential for faster processing.) You may
also choose to download the application, print out the appropriate PDF
version, complete and submit that form of application.
3. Can I submit my high school transcript(s) before I apply?
We recommend that you apply first and wait 3 days before requesting
transcripts to be sent. If we receive your transcripts before your application,
it will delay the processing of your application.
4. Why do you ask for my Social Security number?
We use your Social Security number to confirm and match documents
associated with your application. You also must provide your Social Security
number in order to be considered for financial aid grants, loans and/or
on-campus employment.
5. I am a freshman applicant. What are the main factors you will consider
in the comprehensive review of my application file?
We consider the academic and non-academic elements of your application.
In the area of academic profile, we look at the strength of your curriculum,
your performance in the curriculum, and your academic aptitude or
achievement as demonstrated by scores on standardized tests. In the nonacademic aspects of your application, we look at your activities summary
and your unique life experiences, attributes, achievements and talents and
additional information shared in your responses.
6. If my high school does not rank, can I still be considered
for admission?
Absolutely. We consider much more than the traditional measures of past
and projected performance and promise. The absence of class rank will not
be a disadvantage to a prepared and motivated student.
•If you feel that your academic performance in high school or college was
adversely affected by special circumstances, summarize the information on
the additional information sheet provided (include dates where applicable).
• This application is for freshman and transfer applicants who are
U.S. citizens or permanent residents. International students (nonimmigrants) should call 520.621.3237 or visit
admissions.arizona.edu/International.html.
•The University of Arizona South, or UA South, is a branch
campus of the University of Arizona, serving Arizona
communities as part of the University’s land grant
mission. UA South offers upper-division courses and
programs at some Pima Community College campuses
(Tucson), UA Science and Tech Park (Tucson), UA Douglas,
UA Pinal, UA Santa Cruz, UA Sierra Vista, UA Yuma, and
Online. For information regarding completing your degree
through UA South, please call 520.458.8278, ext.2120, or visit
uas.arizona.edu.
•To request a disability-related accommodation in the admission
process, e-mail us at [email protected] or call us at 520.621.3237.
7. Do I need to have a certain test score in order to be considered
for admission?
No, there is no minimum required test score. If you do not provide test
scores, you may be asked to submit test scores to the review committee
for a more comprehensive and complete review of your application for
admission. Test scores are important factors in comprehensive scholarship
review. Also, some colleges or majors may require test
scores in order to consider applicants for admission
to their specific program of study. Essay
portions of the ACT and SAT are not required
for admission consideration.
8. How many college units do I need
to have completed in order to be
considered a transfer applicant?
In order to be considered for admission
as a transfer applicant, you must have
completed a minimum of 12 transferable
college semester credits/units by the time
you apply and be a high school graduate
(or equivalent). For more details see Transfer
Admission Requirements on page 2.
9. Can I submit additional materials such as letters of recommendation?
Any non-required materials will not be considered or retained. Therefore,
we recommend that you do not submit any additional materials other than
what is requested on the application.
10. What are the average academic profiles of last year's entering
freshman and transfer classes?
The freshman entering the UA in the fall of 2014 and enrolling full-time had
an unweighted mean GPA of 3.37, a mean combined SAT critical reading and
math: 1113, and a mean ACT composite of 24.5. The average unweighted GPA
for new transfers from two- and four-year institutions is 3.14.
11. What if I have a question about which application processing fee
I should pay, the Arizona resident or non-Arizona resident amount?
If you are not certain about which application processing fee to pay,
the $50 or the $75, we encourage you to call the UA Residency
Classification Office at 520.621.3636. You may also visit their Web site
at www.registrar.arizona.edu/residency/residenc.htm. (Remember, if you
will be submitting an eligible application processing fee waiver, you will
not need to determine which fee we will waive.)
5
15. What do I do after I am admitted?
After earning admission to the University of Arizona you will be asked to
confirm your intention to become a new Wildcat. Your admissions package
will include the next steps.
12. When will I be notified about my admission decision?
Once we have your complete application, including all required additional
materials, it usually takes 2-4 weeks for application processing and review to
be completed and for your notification to be sent. See the checklist in this
application for a description of a complete application.
16. When may I apply to UA Housing?
As soon as you are admitted to the University you can apply to live on
campus. Halls typically fill up quickly, so apply for housing as soon as
possible. The online housing application will be available November 2015
through the Next Steps website. For more information check out our website
