Before
you arrive
What
do I need
to pack?
Bedding and towels
Other essentials
You’ll need to provide your own bed linen, we
would suggest bringing the following items:
• Duvet and duvet cover
• Flat bottom sheet
• Pillow(s) and pillow cases
• Mattress protector
• Bath and hand towels
• Coat hangers - as these are not provided
• Warm coat, hat, gloves, scarf and raincoat for
the winter months!
• Don’t forget toilet paper!
Tip: Remember that you’ll need to wash your
own bedding, so you may want to bring a spare
set.
Bedding packs
If you want to save on packing you can
purchase a bedding pack before you
arrive by calling +44 (0)115 9518670 or from
Reception at any time.
The bedding packs include a duvet, duvet
cover, pillow, pillow case and fitted sheet.
The single bedding pack costs £25 and the
double size pack costs £35.
Tip: Antibacterial cleaning wipes are really
easy to use and can be handy for cleaning
bathrooms and bedroom surfaces. They are
widely available from convenience stores and
supermarkets.
Tip: Don’t over pack. Remember you have
limited space.
Tip: Bring along some white/blu tac so you
can put up posters, notes and photos on the
noticeboard in your room (there are poster
sales on-site and on Main Campus during
Welcome Week). You may want to bring some
personal items to make your room your own e.g.
cushions, photo frames. Small boxes/containers
are really useful for keeping your belongings
tidy in your room.
Kitchen equipment
• Crockery - Plates, bowls, mugs, glasses
• Saucepan/Frying pan
• Baking tray
• Tea towels
• Cooking utensils/cutlery
Tip: Don’t bring too much kitchen equipment as
you may be able to share with your flatmates.
Tip: There are plenty of shops in the local area
where kitchen equipment can be bought easily
and cheaply.

What you won’t need
Electrical equipment
Prohibited items
You shouldn’t need to bring any additional
electrical equipment for the kitchen as all the
basics are provided. Electrical items that are for
use in the kitchen e.g. kettles and toasters, must
not be used in the bedrooms.
• Animals of any kind are not allowed in the
accommodation.

a fire risk and not allowed in the accommodation.
• Chip pans and deep fat fryers – these are a high
risk fire hazard.
• Convector heaters and air conditioning units
must not be used.
• Mini fridges (medical fridges are available upon
request pre-arrival, to arrange this please contact
[email protected]).
• Electrical equipment must be safe – preferably

the equipment, please arrange for an inspection
and/or test (Portable Appliance Test). The
Maintenance Team can conduct a check for you –
please ask at the Main Reception.
• The UK electrical supply is 240V and all
appliances must be rated for this voltage. Do not
use electrical items made for other countries’
electrical supply.
• Never overload electrical sockets.

recommend you complete this before you

hours of your arrival.

the condition of your room on arrival, and,
when you leave, will be used to determine

issues with your room.
