Troop 299 Uniform Policy An important element of Scout Spirit is demonstrated by wearing the official BSA uniform correctly and proudly to meetings, events and outings. The uniform makes the Boy Scout troop visible as a force for good and creates a positive youth image in the community. The uniform gives the Boy Scout identity in a world brotherhood of youth who believe in the same ideals. The uniform is practical attire for Boy Scout activities and provides a way for Boy Scouts to wear the badges that show what they have accomplished. Class-A Field Uniform The full Boy Scout uniform is the standard for all troop meetings, Scoutmaster Conferences, Boards of Review, Merit Badge meetings, Courts of Honor and other special events. Scouts and leaders always travel to and from outings wearing Class-A shirt and other clothing appropriate for the activity. Rank Scout Tenderfoot Second Class First Class Star Life Eagle The minimum Class-A uniform necessary at each rank Closed Scout Merit BSA NeckToe Socks HandBadge Shirt wear Shoes book Sash BSA pants BSA Belt The scout shirt must have all appropriate insignia including: Troop 299 numerals, any Simon Kenton Council patch, purple World Crest, and green (or red) shoulder loops. Patrol emblem and rank badge are required beginning with Tenderfoot. Position of Responsibility patch is required beginning with Star Rank. The Webelos Arrow of Light award may remain but all other Cub Scout and Webelos insignia are to be removed. Class-B Activity Uniform Any shirt, sweater, or jacket with an official BSA logo and in good condition is a Class B activity uniform. These can be worn as announced and at most outdoor and physical activities. The troop sells T-shirts and hoodies at cost. Fleece jackets are ordered periodically. Our troop awards green shoulder loops to each scout when he crosses over from Webelos. He will also receive a bolo at cross-over or when he earns the Scout rank. The new Tenderfoot Scout is presented with a Troop 299 TShirt. A Troop 299 neckerchief is presented for earning First Class. Scout Handbook The Scout Handbook, paper and pencil are to be brought to all meetings. A cover for the handbook is recommended. We suggest keeping everything in a sturdy, zippered, 3-ring binder. Rank and Merit Badge cards should be brought to Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review, but otherwise kept at home in a safe place. The Handbook, rank and merit badge cards are a Scout’s official records. Please Note Clothing with non-scouting pictures or messages and camouflage are unacceptable. Sweat and gym pants are acceptable only at outings where such clothing is appropriate for the planned activity and previously announced.
