How to Determine the Installed .NET Framework Version
The following was taken from a Microsoft Knowledgebase article How to:
Determine Which .NET Framework Versions Are Installed.
Determining the .NET version uses the registry editor, which also requires
Administrative rights on the pc.
Click on the Start menu, type Run, then press
enter.
In the Open box, enter regedit.exe.
Here is the
registry editor.

In the Registry Editor, navigate to this specific folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET
Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full
Here’s how you get there:
Double click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Double click on SOFTWARE
Double click on MICROSOFT

Double click on NET Framework Setup
Double click on NDP

Double click on v4
Double click on Full
If you do not have a folder named FULL, your .net
software is old and must be upgraded. Please skip
to the section about installing .NET 4.6.
If you do have a folder named Full, you are running
at least .NET version 4.5 on your pc.
These next steps will help you determine the exact version.
Onscreen, look for
the line named
Release

Compare the 6 digit number
at the end of the Release line
with the numbers in the
table below.

modifications to your workstation are necessary at this time.
NO!--If your number is not found in this table, you are running an older version of
.NET, and must upgrade to .NET 4.6 (in the example here, this pc would need to
be upgraded).

Installing .NET 4.6 on your computer
Navigate to this download page:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48130
Click on the red Download button
Click run
Click on the box accepting the
license terms, then click Install

Installation can take a few
moments. Once complete, this
will appear. Click Finish.
In order to complete the
installation, your pc must be
restarted. Click Restart Now.
