THE VISITOR A NOTE FROM PASTOR STEVE FOR ALL THE SAINTS November 2015 All Saints' Day, also known as All Hallows, is celebrated on November 1. In the early days the Christians were accustomed to solemnize the anniversary of a martyr's death for Christ at the place of martyrdom. Do No Harm Today because we generally regard all true Christian believers as saints we use it to remember all Christians both past and present. We remember all those who have died in the past year who were members of the local church congregation and those who are still close to people’s hearts. In our worship a candle will be lit as each person's name is called out. But All Saints’ Day isn’t just about those who’ve died. Yes, All Saints’ is a day when we recognize Christians who have gone before us, but it’s also a day of asking how we should live as saints now and how we intend to pass on the faith to future generations of believers. That’s what the Communion of Saints is all about. Do Good Stay in Love with God A Prayer Meditation for All Saints Day by Safiyah Fosua We give you thanks, O God, for all the saints who ever worshiped you Whether in brush arbors or cathedrals, Weathered wooden churches or crumbling cement meeting houses Where your name was lifted and adored. We give you thanks, O God, for hands lifted in praise: Manicured hands and hands stained with grease or soil, Strong hands and those gnarled with age Holy hands Used as wave offerings across the land. We thank you, God, for hardworking saints; Whether hard-hatted or steel-booted, Head ragged or aproned, Blue-collared or three-piece-suited They left their mark on the earth for you, for us, for our children to come. Thank you, God, for the tremendous sacrifices made by those who have gone before us. Bless the memories of your saints, God. May we learn how to walk wisely from their examples of faith, dedication, worship, and love. Consider attending this inspirational gathering— a time to meet old friends and make new ones as we celebrate women putting “Love into Action”. Kindness is in our power even when fondness is is not. not fondness “TWO BITS” REMEMBER to keep UMW in your prayers as we continue our celebration of 150 years in mission to women, children and youth throughout the year. We are hoping every member will want to put in their “two bits”! Our founding mothers put in 2 cents a week for mission. Today’s equivalent is 50 cents. That amounts to $26. a year. Think about involving yourself in this way. THE VISITOR— PAGE 3 Thanks to Hagestad Painting & Coatings Inc. EACH of US SHOULD: Work as though we don’t need the money. Love as though no one has ever hurt us. Dance as though no one was watching. Sing as though no one was listening. Live as though this life is paradise on earth. A bright new face is on our steeple and columns. Thanks to our trustees and to Kelsen Ramey and the Hagestad painting crew for seeing this project through. Now it’s your turn— While we have a very reasonable cost for the project we need your strong support to pay for it and continue to fund our regular budget. The positive figures recently are encouraging but they do not reflect the cost of the painting project in full. Please consider a special gift for the building maintenance and/or continued strong giving in your offerings through the end of the year. GREETINGS FROM THE WORSHIP COMMITTEE! After starting with music worship, classes divide according to age during the 10:00-10:45 class time. Younger kiddos and early Elementary students are continuing their study of Abraham and Sarah, and God's blessings in their lives, while the older youngsters are studying other lessons from the Bible, and preparing for their first puppet presentation during the 1st service on October 25th. Students are always encouraged to bring friends to Sunday School and any other activities which occur during the year. We will continue to look for weekly helpers, which will enable us to have an additional class each week for those who are in the 1st-3rd grades. On Sunday November 8th, four youngsters will be receiving their own "Adventure Bible". Traditionally, students who are 2nd graders and older, and have not yet received their very own Bible, are given this gift from the church to enjoy as they continue to learn about God and His plan their lives. This year will include Alex Ruhmann, Anna Mason, Barrett Woywod, and Ryleigh Hadland. Our congratulations to these young people, and thanks to the Epworth family for their assistance with this special event. With the approaching Advent season, our calendar will be even more crowded than usual. We hope to see you at these coming events (and be sure to bring your friends)! Then there is the excitement of Halloween. We will see all of you at the Spooktacular and then have our own little carnival on Thursday. On Friday, the 30th, we will go to the Lutheran Home in our costumes so all the residents there can see the children as they are not doing their Boo Bash and asked us to come. Rick Hagen brought us some delicious carrots and onions from his garden. We are still enjoying apples from Connie Grachek. We also loved the smell of lefse cooking in your kitchen and can’t wait to buy some! Have a Happy Halloween. THE VISITOR— PAGE 5 EPPIE, THE MISSION MOUSE SAYS: Happy Thanksgiving! I am sure everyone is looking forward to Thanksgiving Dinner and of course, school will be out! My favorite Part of dinner is the pumpkin pie! Do you know what the best thing is to put into pumpkin pie? Your teeth of course! I am always thankful for food to enjoy but I am grateful for a lot of things. When you gather, be sure to ask your family what they are thankful for this year. God knows but it is always good for us to tell him! Enjoy your holiday, IF you are not living with the horror of war, the solitude of prison, the pain of torture and are not close to death from starvation, you are better off than 500 million people. IF you worship without fear, you are luckier than 3 billion people. IF you have a full fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are wealthier than 75% of the world population. IF you have money in the bank, money in your wallet, and coins in your purse, you are one of 8 privileged few among every 100 persons in the world. IF you can read, there are 2 billion in the world who cannot. HARVEST DINNER AND BASKETS FOR CAMPERS AUCTION Its the time of year when the harvest comes in and all the wonderful smells of fall are around us. Smells like turkey baking, potatoes, stuffing and all of the yummy pies that happen this time of year. Oh wait..... I'm talking about our Harvest dinner and basket auction, with all of its great food and fellowship. What better way than to come and support our church family by having a meal together and giving the opportunity to our youth to go to church camp. All the proceeds from the Basket Auction go to our kids for scholarships to help them go to church camp on Flathead lake. Last year every kid that went to camp on the lake was 1/2 sponsored from the previous year’s auction. Last year you helped ten kids go to camp. Wow! What a meaningful opportunity and what incredible memories that event fostered. So help us again this year give the gift of camp to our kids, and eat a wonderful meal. Who can pass down an early turkey dinner! Ways you can help: Donate a basket, there are too many themes to mention them all, but a few, a canning basket, a Legos basket directed towards the kids only bids, a family fun night basket, game night, arts and crafts basket, to make a quilt, a scrapbook theme, a dessert theme. Let your mind run wild and have fun creating. The more baskets the merrier!! Secondly bring your favorite side dish for a turkey dinner, the bird and ham will be supplied. Appetizers will be served and fun crafts will be done between the coffee hour and during second service, the meal will start following the conclusion of second service. Lets all help make some memories, join us for the Harvest Dinner and "Baskets for Campers Auction" immediately following second service on November 15th. Hope to see you all there!!
