LADY FUTURE The Future not far distant stands In garb of dazzling, glowing sheen, Betokening, with her beckoning hands, A land of promise, fair and green. Now forward eagerly we press To join her, in her bounty share, And strive for measure of success, Adjust ourselves to joy and care. In College days, so swiftly passed, We learned that we must live to do, Ideals we formed must ever last, Because their principles are true; And girded with our weapons keen, With strengthened Soul and cultured Mind, May we with firm and valiant mien Encounter Life--nor Failure find! The seasons with their headlong pace Have fled and brought us balmy June, When partings that we have to face Seem harder, sadder,--come too soon. Regretful, backward glance we cast On days and scenes, so gaily spent, On memories that we'll hold fast When time to youth her wings has lent; But in that wondrous, golden land, Where hope's fulfilled, contentment found, Upon whose outskirts now we stand, We'll hear, once more, dear voices sound; So future, let us walk with you, In paths untrod, in ways untold, Emmanuel will guide us too, Our Friend, unchanged while lives unfold. ---Carolyn E.
