Issue 31 M I C H I G A N I S L A M I C A C A D E M Y Pre-K Weekly Taking Risks In a Montessori classroom, freedom of choice allows children the opportunity to try out new activities in a safe environment. They can make mistakes and it’s all right. They can repeat an activity as many times as they want until they feel satisfied. Maria Montessori discovered that certain traits in children are universal and so are the needs of children ― all children can learn and thrive in a stimulating learning environment. The Montessori learning environment meets the needs of curious, young minds where they can explore new learning by taking risks and even failing in a protective, safe environment. The classrooms are cleaner than our backyards and there are many purposeful activities available for children to explore. But the principle is the same ― and that is “learn by doing”. Find out what appeals to you and stay with it as long as you please. Explore resources, work together and learn social skills. As adults, Montessori children think outside the box and create greater things. The Google boys, the head of Amazon, are a few examples – maybe your child will be the next great innovator of our time, Insha’Allah! Busy Week Alhamdulillah we resume after the spring break with fresh mind and energy, with many things in hands and mind to do. We came up with the script for our Annual Gathering Performance and started practicing and rehearsing with Kg and 1st graders. Children are excited to perform on the stage, so please invite your family and friends to the annual gathering celebration, to make our student’s hard work successful. In Language we completed all 5 boxes of sounds and objects; we will continue to do extended activities and more practice. We also worked with CVC words and writing them with moveable alphabet and write them down on mini booklet. This is the activity to enhance beginning, middle and ending sounds and it will help students to copy and write. In Math our new activity is introduction to “TIME,” through block sorting clock. This activity will help children develop fine motor skills, life skills, and concentration, colors and number recognition. We worked with “Hundred Boards,” it aids the child in the development of number concepts and logical thought, recognition of numbers 1-100, and provides exercise in counting to 100 with the symbols. In History we worked with Life Cycle of human five layers puzzle. It’s suitable for preschooler and up. This puzzle shows the different stages of development in a human life cycle .Bring children into the understanding of life, maturing and aging. Explain the life cycle of a human while putting together this fun wooden educational puzzle. The puzzle will help develop logical thinking and expand the vocabulary of children. In Geography we extended our solar system activity by coloring, cutting and gluing the planets on the pretending black sky. It is our last Surah, and will review all the Surahs after we are done. Islamic Studies: Students are enjoying stories about Prophets. We are going to continue with Surat Musa for the third day.
