FLASHBACK
On page 120, underline the portions of the passage from "The Land" that illustrate flashback. What does the flashback help the reader understand? FORESHADOWING
On page 121, read the definitions and examples of foreshadowing and then look at the
examples in the "foreshadowing clues" box at the bottom of the page.
Using your own ending, practice foreshadowing using the various strategies (setting, dialogue, action ...)

The Scarlet Ibis
As you read this story, underline the details that 1) show the setting of the story (time, place, season ...) AND 2) indicate flashback and foreshadowing. There may be quite a bit of vocabulary in this story that is unfamiliar. Circle the words that are new to you and try to guess at their meaning using context clues.
