Fun With Fingerplays and Songs
What’s the Weather
(tune: “Oh, My Darling Clementine”)
What's the weather, what's the weather.
What's the weather, everyone?
Is it windy, is it cloudy,
Is there rain, or is there sun?
Sunny
(tune: “BINGO”)
There was a day when it was hot, and sunny was the
weather
S-U-N-N-Y
S-U-N-N-Y
S-U-N-N-Y
And sunny was the weather.
Other Verses:
There was a day when it was wet and rainy was the
weather… R-A-I-N-Y…
There was a day when it was cold and snowy was the
weather… S-N-O-W-Y…
There was a day when I got blown and windy was the
weather… W-I-N-D-Y…
You Are My Sunshine
Froggy Gets Dressed
by Jonathan London
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are gray.
You’ll never know dear, how much I love you.
Please don’t take my sunshine away.
Who Took the Farmer’s Hat?
by Joan L. Nodset
Rain, Rain, Go Away
The Wind Blew
by Pat Hutchins
Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day.
Rain, rain, go away,
All the children want to play.
Other Fun Things
It’s Raining, It’s Pouring
It’s raining, it’s pouring
The old man is snoring.
He went to bed and
bumped his head,
And he couldn’t get up in the morning.
Rain Painting
Sprinkle drops of food coloring on a paper plate.
Hold it in the rain for about a minute.
Talk about the designs created by the rain.
If It’s Windy
Cloud Watching
by Jean Warren
(tune: “If You’re Happy And You Know It”)
If it’s windy and you know it swing and sway.
If it’s windy and you know it swing and sway.
If it’s windy and you know it,
Then your clothes will surely show it.
If it’s windy and you know it, swing and sway.
Chalk Shadows
If it’s sunny and you know it, then go play.
If it’s sunny and you know it, then go play.
If it’s sunny and you know it,
Then your clothes will surely show it.
If it’s sunny and you know it, then go play.
If it’s rainy and you know it, splash about.
If it’s rainy and you know it, splash about.
If it’s rainy and you know it,
Then your clothes will surely show it.
If it’s rainy and you know it, splash about.
Lie on a blanket outdoors and watch the clouds. Name
the different things you see.
On a nice sunny day, trace your child’s shadow with
chalk. If you do this at different times during the day,
you can compare how the shadows change.
Rainbow Snack
Have your child make a delicious, nutritious rainbow
salad using fruit:
Red strawberries Yellow pineapple Blue blueberries
Orange oranges Green apples
Purple grapes
If it’s snowy and you know it, stomp around.
If it’s snowy and you know it, stomp around.
If it’s snowy and you know it,
Then your clothes will surely show it.
If it’s snowy and you know it, stomp around.
