You will be helping to organize fundraisers to benefit the, Prom, and your senior class activities. You will be responsible for assisting in dress down days and planning for field day. Freshman Council members will meet one time each month, so members of this council will need to sign up for an additional club. It is your responsibility to make your second club advisor aware of this obligation. 2209 DCTS Wolverine Council (See teacher) Wolverine Council is DCTS’s student council. We run activities and charitable events for the whole school. Some of the activities that we host include the Holiday Door Decorating Contest, the Holiday Tree, Ice Cream Socials, and Field Day. We get involved in Dress Down Days and other events each year to raise money for different charities including the Bethesda Mission every November. This club will have regular meetings focusing on leadership, organization and is goal-oriented. Participation in matches outside of school will be based on scores. 1302/ 1303 Anime Club An anime club is an organization that meets to discuss, show, and promote anime in a local community setting and can also focus on broadening Japanese cultural film and literature. 2224 Basketball Club This club is designed for the energetic person. It provides a student with the opportunity to get a good workout, while also developing sportsmanship and teamwork. Students will have the opportunity to learn basic basketball skills and correct rules of the game. The requirements are for students to act properly (no unsportsman-like conduct or disrespect) and dress accordingly (t-shirt with sleeves, gym shorts, and sneakers). We will establish 4 teams of 9 players who will receive equal playing time within the tournament style set-up. We encourage that students intending to play have played some form of competitive basketball in the past. Students will play games of basketball GYM Students can come and play board games against the club advisors and each other. Board games are provided or student may bring games approved by advisors. We can have tournaments as well. The students will engage in a book club. The students will be able to pick a book of their choice and read during the period. Once the book is complete, they will write a review to be posted in the library or classroom. The cost was $5.00 per week and students required to pay the amount in full ($90) at the beginning of the club season. 2226 ABC North Students of all ability levels will learn to play chess and/or improve their skills at the game. We will have a tournament of interested students during 4th Quarter and will name a student chess champion before the end of the year. Join us for a relaxing way to end your week. You can choose from intricate or simple design patterns and color away some of the stress of your week before heading home. Coloring is a great way to de-stress after the long week! Students will de-stress by spending time creating art work with coloring pages. Students will be provided markers, crayons, colored pencils, and coloring pages that aren’t for the weakminded! Many comic books have been made into movies. X-men, Fantastic Four, The Avengers, Batman, Daredevil, etc. Films will be watched and discussed during this club. No sleeping allowed! DCTS radio will provide student driven and student created content through an automated, streamed, Internet radio station. Club members working individually or in small teams will contribute to a database of tracks, select a playlists, record stop sets, and produce original content to create a programming segment. The club members together will determine the station’s programming schedule. Its extended mission will be to pursue opportunities to conduct interviews of members of the DCTS community, advertise DCTS events and support or enhance other student activities. Open to Journalism students only. Club time will be used for student reporters to be on assignment, gathering information regarding current happenings at DCTS. Prizes will be awarded to the top two competitors at the end of the school year. 1st Place (Champion): $100 gift card 2nd Place (Runner-up) $50 gift card In the history of the automobile club students will learn about different manufactures that have contributed to the advancement of the automobile. We will learn about different manufactures such as Hudson, Packard, Kaiser, and others that students don’t even know existed. They will lean what the manufactures did to change the way automobiles are design, perform, handle, and look. This is for a student that is interested in vehicles and are excited about learning the history behind the vehicles we drive today. By joining Lab Rats, you can participate in science far and Science Olympiad. DCTS competes in CASEF (Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair) in March and PJAS (Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science) in February. You are able to design and conduct your own research and then present it at the fairs. Science Olympiad is a team of 15 students that participate in a variety of STEM events at Millersville University in March. We can also participate in other STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities. We may participate in the Philadelphia Zoo’s UNLESS challenge. 2206 Latrunculi was a two-player strategy board game played throughout the Roman Empire. It is said to resemble chess or draughts, but is generally accepted to be a game of military tactics. Dominos is a tile matching game played throughout the world. 1202 Mr. Winton Martial Arts Movie Club Students will view classic as well as recent martial arts movies to better understand how this philosophy extends throughout many cultures and around the world. Additionally, students will gain exposure to the peaceful, reflective elements of various martial arts philosophies. This club is for students interested in participating in Math and Quiz Bowl Competitions. Students will use productive struggle to push through and overcome challenging problems. Some problems may not be solvable, but the students who join this club must be willing to try anyway! Some (not all) students in this club will go on field trips to compete at various locations including several different colleges throughout the year. The students will learn about what meditation is, why it is important and how to practice with useful tips. Non-Precision Machining Technology students will have the opportunity to learn and practice the art of shielded metal (ARC Welding) also known as “stick” welding. Students will be able to practice welding along with machining home projects. Club members will discuss current events that are pertinent to the military services. We will watch the most current edition of each branch of services’ news broadcast such as “Air Force.” Students already in the military will share experiences from basic training, technical school, AIT, etc. We will listen to guest speakers brought in to share their experiences and relate opportunities in the military. Examples of guest speakers would be Liaison Officers from the various service academies, recruiters from local recruiting stations, Air National Guard Pilots, current National Guard members, Iraq/Afghan veterans and military retirees. Club will focus on Pennsylvania history. Students will research and study significant historical facts and take turns presenting to the club members each week. The club will introduce various games involving playing cards and allow students to compete against others to test their luck! They will learn how to put mechanical parts together, program the robot and market the club and bot. We would like to use 1410 as the “home base” for the club but move the students who would like to program and do marketing to 1207 and a select few to work on the FTC robot in 2108. Mrs. Stoner would take control of the marketing while Mr. Jacobs is taking care of the mechanical and Mr. Dawson would migrate students to the FTC robot and the programming depending on what part of the season we are in. All students would report to 1410 each club period and would be split up to work in their respective areas for that day.
