Premier’s be active Challenge in 2013
By now your school or family should have received an information pack through your
principal regarding the 2013 Premier’s be active Challenge. Traditionally targeting
only school students, the 2013 Premier’s be active Challenge, is also encouraging
families to get their children active, even if the school chooses not to be involved.
By participating in the Premier’s be active Challenge it gives children a purpose to be
physically active every day. Riding a bike, walking or making time for a family stroll
are just some of the ways that participants can make little changes to their daily
routine, to achieve a move active lifestyle.
The Challenge is about achieving and recording 60 minutes a day of physical activity.
This does not need to be done all at once, it can be done in 10 minute blocks
throughout the day; every bit of physical activity that they do will add up. Participants
need to complete at least 4 weeks of the program to receive an incentive. Each year
a different medallion is awarded as a reminder of personal achievement and this year
families who participate will be invited to attend a Premier’s reception in November.
Registration / Transferral of students
The pluses just adding up. Smarter, Fitter and Happy get
some exercise to ensure they receive all the benefits that
physical activity has to offer.
The Challenge is open for business NOW! You are welcome to register new
participants, transfer existing participants or register yourself as a coordinator and
take the Challenge with your school or families.
Why should we take the Challenge?
The Premier’s be active Challenge slogan for 2013, ‘The pluses add up’ comes from
the research of the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) where their work has shown
that children who are more physically active are achieving better results with their
education. The new campaign looks to pass on the message that being active can be
very beneficial for maintaining a healthy body weight and keeping a good level of
fitness; but also that those children who are regularly physically active are showing
better concentration levels in learning environments and finding it easier to retain
important information.

‘Active kids get improved results’
February 2013
At the conclusion of every year, the schools that have a high percentage of their
students who complete 10 weeks of the program will earn themselves $1000 to go
towards sporting goods for their school. Every Health/PE budget could do with extra
funds so get your school registered and let the logging begin.
Links to the Curriculum
Time is precious in all educational settings and with literacy and numeracy having
priority it is no secret that integrated curriculum is important as we attempt to fit all
subject areas into a limited amount of time.
If you are a teacher or parent who values the Premier’s be active Challenge and
would like it to link directly to the curriculum using an integrated approach then
contact Nick Warren at the Challenge and he will be able to assist you as you teach
multiple subject areas using the Challenge as the vehicle to do so.
A sneak peak at our new website
Don’t be surprised if you log on to our website: www.pbac.sa.edu.au in the near
future and you don’t recognise it. Over the break we have been designing a new
concept for the Challenge as we look to make our program a more useful program for
families and schools. Don’t worry too much about the change in the look to the
website; we have kept the functions as user friendly and as similar to the old website
as possible.
