Newsworthy Notes…
Is anyone else ready for fall to arrive? I hate to wish our days away, but a
little fall weather would be very welcome after the long, hot summer we have had
this year. As for the rain, maybe we will get some more gentle watering than
what we received in late August. I hope those of you that experienced wind
damage or flooding have been able to recover from the disruption.
There were 104 members at the August movie, “Eddie the Eagle”.
Inspired by true events, this was a “feel-good” story about Michael “Eddie”
Edwards, the courageous ski-jumper that represented Great Britain in the 1988
Calgary Olympics. Eddie was so determined and never stopped believing in
himself, even as those around him continued to count him out. It was one of the
most inspirational movies we have seen in a long time and everyone really
enjoyed it. Thanks to Jan Lush and Bob Borgelt who helped us draw for prizes
and congratulations to the $2 winners: Richard Lines, Don Jacobs, Connie
Nelsen, Joan Wright, Joan Hernandez, Roger Hohensee, Gayle Daehling,
Richard Schlenker, Marlene Schlenker, and Pat Nelson. There were no winners
drawn for either of the $Moneybags$ so the morning prize will be $60 and the
afternoon prize will be $20 at the September 14 movie day. Movies are shown
at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Blair 3 Theatres. Please join us!
Our Let Freedom Ring tour to Boston/New York/Philadelphia is right
around the corner! All payments have been finalized and more travel information
will be provided to all passengers a couple of weeks before our October 11th
departure day.
The evening trip to see White Christmas at the Orpheum Theater on
November 15th is completely full (after adding 10 more tickets!) and there are a
few names on a stand-by list in the event of a cancellation. Friendly reminder
for those that have made reservations: Please send your payment if you have
not done so already…thank you! If you want to add your name to the waiting list,
please call me at 402-533-0103.
Over 300 coupons were turned in to Butch’s Deli or Dairy King by Club
members for the anniversary ice cream cones. I’m happy to see that so many of
you enjoyed a cold, sweet treat to help celebrate the Heritage Club’s 29th year.
Now it is nearing time to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall. Have
a safe and happy Labor Day…a day to celebrate work by not working!
