Astheleaderofthislesson,youwillguideparticipantsthroughascenariowhichencouragesthemtothink
throughthequalitiesandcharacteristicstheywouldliketoseeinanytrustedprofessional,particularly
thoseinhigh-risksituations.Itiskeythatyouinitiallydonotrelatethelessontomedicalpracticeatall.
Thestudentswillbesplitintoteamsof4-6individuals,andinformedthattheyhavebeeninvitedtoa
skydivingsession.Onarrivalatthe“skydivingcentre”,theteamisrequiredtocreateanexhaustivelistof
thecharacteristicstheywouldliketheirinstructortohave,sothatjusttherightpersoncanbefound.
Theyarethenencouragedtorelatethecharacteristicstheyhavecomeupwithtotheframeworkgivenin
theGMC’s“Achievinggoodmedicalpractice:guidanceformedicalstudents”,andconsidertheimplication
oflackinganyspecificaspectsofprofessionalism,firstlyinthescenarioofskydiving,andsecondlyin
medicalpractice.
Thefollowingscriptcanbeusedflexibly,withadditionalactivitiestodevelopthis15-minuteactivityintoan
hour-longsessionifrequired.
