January 2013 Delivering With Pride One Case at a Time AD Newsletter Highlights Food Safety and Quality Control The Anderson-DuBose Company is committed to assuring the highest level of product quality and food safety through adherence to McDonald’s Quality Inspections, proper cold chain management, internal audit procedures, and 3rd party assessments. Food safety and product security are essential supply chain elements that are the first line of defense for maintaining “Brand Trust” and ensuring that our customers have the best possible experience when visiting the restaurants we service. We accomplish these things through our commitment to excellence in the areas of food safety and sanitation. On Thursday, January 24th we had our Quarterly visit with The U.S. McDonald’s Director of Quality Control and Quality Control Manager. This was a food safety and quality control review of our Distribution Center. The outcome from this visit was very positive and that AD has a very robust and detailed quality program that not only meets our Customer’s expectations, but exceeds them as well. Cross-contamination and food quality are the two biggest components that we need to focus on in a food distribution center. The ultimate goal is to get safe, quality products to our customers and we do that well, however there are a few things we need to improve on. Two food safety concerns that we need to focus on more are: 1. 2. Reporting food contamination or food related concerns to a Supervisor or Manager immediately upon discovery. Closing all dock doors that are not in use (even if a trailer is in the door) AT ALL TIMES. If they are not closed the threat of birds and insects entering the facility is high. Birds and insects both carry diseases and present food safety concerns. As we all work together to continuously improve our processes and procedures, we will succeed in continuing to provide all of our Customers with the best quality products possible. After all, we want our customers to think “Quality” when they think of Anderson-DuBose. Quick Tips: Eating Healthy on the Job, in a hurry! On the road, in the warehouse, or just sitting at your desk, you have to make a decision about what you eat every day. In this business busy days, call for fast meals. Whether it is in the office or on the road fast food joints lie around practically every corner. Although these places are quick and won’t throw off your schedule, they can throw off your mental and physical health if you don't choose the right foods. The food we like to eat that is quick to pick up is greasy food full of fat, empty carbohydrates and excess salt. Over time these foods can drive up your cholesterol and blood pressure, setting you up for a higher risk of heart attack, stroke and a slew of other health complications that could put you out of work. The abundance fat and carbohydrates can make you sleepy and lethargic, and for a truck driver, or a warehouse worker handling heavy machinery this effect can be dangerous. Below are a few healthy snack options to keep you going and not run you down: Baby Carrots: They are a good source of vitamin A and they are easily found at just about an grocery store. They can satisfy your crunchy cravings! Almonds (or any other nuts): this fast and convenient food is a good source of vitamin E and B. They also provide your diet with fiber to keep you full. They do contain fat, but mostly unsaturated fat (good fat). Fruit: most all gas stations, truck stops and grocery stores sell fruit such as bananas, oranges, or apples. All of these make for a quick snack contains antioxidants, essential nutrients and fiber! Don’t forget a napkin though!
