Many Indians died along the way. Whites argued that it was “protecting” the Indians from their laws. He created the Big Stick Diplomacy, and used in his efforts on helping smaller, oppressed countries gain their independence. Connecting by Theme - Roosevelt gained new territories along with new trading rights with other countries. This pushed America to new industries and fields and helped in further American advancement. Spanish-American War Spanish-American War Date - 1898 ~ 1899 Summary - Spain became angry when the U.S began to support Cuba’s desire for Independence from Spain. Thus creating a war between America and Spain. Connecting by Theme - America wanted control of Cuba to advance its trading and territories.
