Coal Mining Oral History Project Ernest Foster (Former Leader of Durham County Council) Yes. Well, I mean, I mean matter less what you think about Arthur Scargill, Arthur Scargill said that if the investment had been there into fluoridised beds at these power stations and the like of that the emissions could be, you know, eradicated. You know it could have been clean air, because I can always remember Scargill at the Sizewell, I think it was Sizewell B Nuclear Enquiry when they were on about building nuclear power stations and this professor was on about how clean nuclear power was and Arthur Scargill said “well, miners have an old remedy. They, when they get problems with heartburn and anything like that they get a piece of coal, wash the piece of coal and they suck the coal and they seem to think that gets shut of the heartburn. But”, he says, “You can’t suck an isotope can you?”
