Lyricist,librettist,composer,actor,singer,dancer,comedian;activeinmusical
comedyandvaudeville;acontemporaryofErnestHogan,WillMarionCook,
andtheJohnsonbrothers.Hiscareerhasbeenwellcovered,especially
throughthescholarlycontributionsofThomasRiis(seeBibliography).Asa
creativefigure,heworkedmostcloselywith
BillyJohnson(1858-1916),
andJamesWeldonJohnson(1871-1938),
andJohnRosamondJohnson(1873-1954).
