Volunteers We salute the many volunteers who give their time and energy throughout the year to our parks, our programs and our citizens. Without the dedication of our volunteers and support of our partners it would be impossible to provide the vast number of programs, events and park activities offered to our community members. We thank all of our volunteers for their time and energy, and the support of our partners. The department staff welcomes and encourages citizen input to enhance the program offerings and park and facility usage. Respectfully, Hartford Parks and Recreation Staff We are proud to be recognized as a nationally accredited department by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) for excellence in operation and service. The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Commission is to consult with and advise the Director of Parks and Recreation in matters affecting recreation programs; park/facility related projects, policies and finances. This commission also assists in the development of long-range planning for recreation and park needs of the community. The Commission serves solely in an advisory capacity. In that capacity, the Commission may recommend action to the Town Selectboard, but may not assume any legislative or administrative authority in the operation of the Parks and Recreation Department. To achieve this goal, the Commission shall seek to increase public awareness of the existence and value of park and recreation opportunities in the Town, and review the annual Department budget. They perform all of the above, in a manner representing the Town of Hartford citizens. Department Staff A full-time department staff was established in 1975.
