Our Mission:
To serve the needs of the community through quality parks and facilities and by offering lifelong learning through
recreational and cultural programs.
2
Our Vision:
Something for Everyone – Where the citizens of Hartford and surrounding communities recognize the vital
necessity of recreation through diverse programs that reach all, regardless of age, gender, race and economic
backgrounds. A department that cooperates with all community groups to bring a variety of recreation
opportunities to the citizens of Hartford. The parks and facilities are maintained at the highest quality and
improved on a regular basis to meet the future needs of the community.
Dear Friends,
We are please to assure that all community members are
given the opportunity to participate in our programs, as
well as take advantage of the parks and facilities located
throughout the five villages. The Maxfield Outdoor Sport
Complex fully opened for full activities this season.
The Department serves a wide range of the community
members. Program offerings range from community
special events, community concerts, youth and adult
sports, cultural activities and programs that promote
healthy lifestyles and sustainable parks.
Volunteers
We salute the many volunteers who give their
time and energy throughout the year to our
parks, our programs and our citizens.
Without the dedication of our volunteers and support of
our partners it would be impossible to provide the vast
number of programs, events and park activities offered to
our community members. We thank all of our volunteers
for their time and energy, and the support of our partners.
The department staff welcomes and encourages citizen
input to enhance the program offerings and park and
facility usage.
Respectfully,
Hartford Parks and Recreation Staff
We are proud to be recognized as a
nationally accredited department by
the Commission for Accreditation of
Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA)
for excellence in operation and service.

Parks and Recreation Commission
The Parks and Recreation Commission was established in 1974. The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Commission is to
consult with and advise the Director of Parks and Recreation in matters affecting recreation programs; park/facility related projects,
policies and finances. This commission also assists in the development of long-range planning for recreation and park needs of the
community.
The Commission serves solely in an advisory capacity. In that capacity, the Commission may recommend action to the Town
Selectboard, but may not assume any legislative or administrative authority in the operation of the Parks and Recreation Department.
To achieve this goal, the Commission shall seek to increase public awareness of the existence and value of park and recreation
opportunities in the Town, and review the annual Department budget. They perform all of the above, in a manner representing
the Town of Hartford citizens.
