Masi. HOUSTON – Mr. George V. Masi, President and CEO of Harris Health System will be the featured speaker at Commissioner Steve Radack’s Annual Memorial Day Ceremony. The annual event starts at 2:00 p.m. on May 29, 2017 at the Harris County War Memorial in Bear Creek Pioneers Park. The ceremony will be held at 3535 War Memorial Drive near the park entrance off N. Eldridge Parkway. It honors county residents who paid the ultimate price while serving in the armed forces during wartime. The solemn ceremony will include: the presentation and posting of colors by the Precinct Five Constable’s Color Guard, singing of the National Anthem and America the Beautiful by Ms. Jessica Arriaga, a Twenty-one Gun Salute and Taps by The Houston Police Department Honor Guard, and opening and closing prayers by Rev. Paul Chovanec, Pastor, St. Justin Martyr Parish. Precinct Three Parks Superintendent Steve Dorman will serve as master of ceremonies and will introduce Mr. George V. Masi. Before joining the Harris County Hospital District in 2001 now known as Harris Health System, Mr. Masi served for 27 years as a career officer with the Army Medical Department, rising to the rank of Colonel. Mr. Masi’s final military assignment was Commanding Officer for Fort Stewart Georgia’s Winn Army Hospital. Earlier assignments include Chief of Staff for the Army’s Southeast Regional Medical Command, Fort Gordon, Georgia; Deputy Commander and Chief Operating Officer for Army Hospitals in Virginia and Massachusetts, as well as Battalion Command of a field medical unit. Prior to being named President and CEO of Harris Health System in July of 2014, Mr. Masi served as the System’s Interim President and CEO, as the System’s Chief Operating Officer for 9 years, and had served as the Administrator of Ben Taub General Hospital, the system’s 600-bed teaching hospital. Mr. Masi holds graduate degrees from the University of Buffalo, Long Island University, and the National Defense University. He is a Certified Healthcare Executive and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. The Harris County War Memorial was built more than 31 years ago during the administration of former Precinct Three Commissioner Bob Eckels. It carries the names of county residents killed in uniform during World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom.
