1. OVERVIEW
Destination NSW is a Public Service Executive agency with responsibility for devising and implementing strategies to grow the visitor economy. Our
particular focus is on driving tourism and acquiring and developing major sporting and cultural events for Sydney and Regional NSW. In addition,
Destination NSW is the major investor in Business Events Sydney with the aim to secure more international conventions, incentive travel reward programs,
corporate events and exhibitions for Sydney and Regional NSW.

2. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF ROLE
 Provide ministerial support services to the Chief Executive Officer, Senior Management, the Minister for Tourism and Major Events and the Board of
Destination NSW to enable the achievement of the Authority’s objectives.
 Assist in the management of the day to day relationship between Destination NSW, the Minister’s office and the Chief Executive Officer on all ministerial,
parliamentary and other information requests.
 Provide timely, high quality advice through research and analysis of information from a range of sources to the Minister, and Chief Executive Officer on a
range of issues.

Act as a conduit between Destination NSW, the Minister’s Office and Board members.
Prepare House Folder Notes and responses for Budget Estimates, working closely with
CEO and General Managers as relevant
Coordinate information and assist in the preparation of written documentation from a wide
variety of sources for the preparation of complex briefing papers, correspondence,
Parliamentary House Notes
Proactively obtain information and work in consultation with staff within the divisions of
Destination NSW to prepare and enhance materials required for ministerial briefings
Consult with relevant legislation, policy documents and Hansard in preparing
documentation
Monitoring of Parliament including question time of Parliament and the preparation of
response to Parliamentary questions on notice, house notes and associated material
Provide incoming folders for new Ministerial staff as required.

Contribute to the Destination NSW strategic, operational and budgetary planning and
management process to achieve corporate and strategic objectives.
Develop and/or contribute to succinct, timely, informative and accurate briefings, papers
and corporate reporting requirement.
Update and ensure CRM system accurately reflects internal & external customers with
whom the position engages.
Be proactive in suggesting areas for improvement in internal processes along with
possible solutions.
Ensure tasks undertaken adhere to all policies and procedures, including Occupation
Health & Safety operational plan requirements.
As a NSW Government agency representative, adhere and comply with all Destination
NSW policies and procedures.
Ensure all physical and electronic business records are stored and maintained in
recordkeeping system as mandated by NSW Government.
Establish effective networks and working relationships with clients and stakeholders to
support Destination NSW’s operational and business plans and corporate objectives



4. KEY CHALLENGES
 Working in a high pressure environment where there is a requirement to make quick informative decisions within a limited timeframe.
 Maintaining confidentiality and providing advice on sensitive issues taking into account political implications and public perceptions.
 Responding to the ongoing requirements of the Minister and Minister’s office.
 Keeping up to date with the wider developments in the State and their potential effect on the tourism industry.
 Using a high degree of political judgement to manage contentious and sensitive issues and communicating an appropriate response.
 Implementation of corporate governance standards to ensure all parties are familiar with their duty of disclosure and potential conflicts of interest.
 Building and maintaining strong relationships with all Destination NSW, Minister’s Office, Chief Executive Officer and other NSW government agencies.

 Preparing advice and recommendations to the CEO and Destination NSW Board that are consistent with NSW government standards and fit the
strategic direction of Destination NSW.
 Prepare advice and recommendations to the Minister’s office.
 Using the appropriate legislative resources (Acts), policy documents, parliamentary resources and Ministerial Style Manual.
 Decisions regarding the management of resources to implement corporate policies and programs.
IN CONSULTATION DECISION MAKING
 Liaison with the Director, Ministerial and Corporate Communications regarding issues where precedent does not exist or material for inclusion in the
Parliamentary folder and Budget Estimate Committee Briefing Papers.
 All Divisions of Destination NSW in coordinating appropriate information to present advice to the CEO, Minister, Destination NSW Board and
broader department of Trade and Investment.
 Consult with regional tourism offices in itinerary planning for regional visits.

8. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
 Tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry/government experience.
EXPERIENCE
 Experience and appropriate interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships at all levels including Destination NSW’s Executive, staff within
the Minister’s office, other government agencies and organisations
 Experience in servicing of high level committees and taskforces and a good understanding of the corporate governance of Boards.
 Superior knowledge of the workings of Government, including the role of Ministers, as well as Government protocols and procedures.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
 Problem solving skills with ability to analyse complex issues and formulate and coordinate responses.
 Superior written skills and experience in preparing concise documents and editing.
 Advanced communication and negotiation skills with an ability to influence at a strategic level.
 Demonstrated judgement and sensitivity to political issues and an ability to identify & raise issues.
 Good understanding of knowledge management and the flow of information within an environment with high levels of corporate governance.
Project management skills with an ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high quality outcomes in a high volume environment.
