Remixers and re-arrangers around the world are invited to access the basic compositional and sound components of the Finale of Anton Bruckner’s 4th Symphony, the so-called ‘Romantic’, and give the samples their very own touch. The entry deadline is 31 January 2016. Twenty passages broken down into individual voices from this epochal work will be ready to download from the website romantic-revolution.com when the contest begins. The winners will receive top-class prizes; in addition, selected tracks will be published by the renowned label Sony Classical. The patron of the competition is the successful musician, DJ and producer Henrik Schwarz. With the remix contest, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin is supporting – together with Sonos – greater convergence and connection between two important music genres. By consciously breaking the work up into its individual tracks, producers and musicians have the possibility to fathom the core of the piece on their own initiative. In this way, the competition offers all participants the opportunity not only to remix or re-arrange, but also to make the classical sound material their own and develop it further in line with their own artistic vision. Participation As of 1 Nov. 2015, the sound components will be available for download on the website romantic-revolution.com using the DSO’s ‘SoundCloud’ account. It is intended that these serve as the basis for one’s own pieces with a maximum length of 12 minutes. In order to participate, the tracks must be linked with the corresponding ‘SoundCloud’ of the orchestra. The DSO will compile a public playlist from the entries that is intended to serve as an inspiration. Entries will be accepted until 31 Jan. 2016. Jury – Award Ceremony – Release An international jury, consisting of, besides Henrik Schwarz, British triphop and dubstep musician and producer Emika, Spex editor Daniel Gerhardt, taz editor Julian Weber and Estonian conductor Risto Joost, will select the five winners in March 2016. The award ceremony and presentation of the award-winning tracks will take place at the Casual Concert with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin on 1 April 2016 in Berlin’s Philharmonic Hall. Selected tracks will be published after the contest by the renowned label Sony Classical. » To be continued on page 2 an Ensemble of Rundfunk Orchester und Chöre GmbH Berlin A brief look back Tugan Sokhiev Music Director The Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin held a remix contest that was a tremendous success for the first time in the 2013-14 season.
