Peace Support Training Centre (FDRE PSTC)
The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Peace
Support Training Centre (FDRE - PSTC) was established
by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ministry
of National Defence in 2010.
This Centre is expected to strengthen Ethiopia’s
contribution to United Nations (UN) and African Union
(AU) peacekeeping and peace support operations at
large, and regional security and stability in particular. It

Addis Ababa University (IPSS)
The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) was
established at Addis Ababa University (AAU) in 2007,
following a tripartite agreement between the AAU, the
Royal Danish Embassy in Ethiopia, and the University
for Peace Africa Programme.

The Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS)
started in February 2005 as an affiliate institute under
the registered Trustees of the Public Affairs Foundation
(PAF). The registered PAF was founded on 7 December
2004, to promote peace and public centered
development in Africa.
The IPCS, as a non-state institute, was founded to
respond to the great challenges related to peace and
security in the Africa, with much focus on the African

International Peace Support Training
Centre (IPSTC)
The Peace Support Training Centre (PSTC) was
established in January 2001 as part of the Kenyan
Defence Staff College, initially focusing on the training
of Kenyan forces for UN peacekeeping missions and
later African Union Peace Support Operations (PSO). In
July 2006 the PSTC became a separate Kenyan MOSD
establishment, with initial efforts towards
“internationalisation” in 2008. In 2009, the PSTC Karen

1991 as the Institute for Defence Policy (IDP) by the
current Executive Director, Dr. Jakkie Cilliers, together

Training Centre (KAIPTC)
In May 1998, the Ministry of Defence of Ghana approved
plans for the establishment of an International
Peacekeeping Training Centre, to build and share
Ghana's five decades of experience and competence in
Peace Support Operations (PSO), as well as address
Ghana's needs for training men and women to meet the
changing demands of complex and multidimensional
peacekeeping activities, and help meet the
peacekeeping training requirements of the West African

Centre (MPSOTC)
The Peace Support Operations Training Centre was
established on 22 March 2004, in order to fill the gap
that existed within the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) to
be able to deploy highly trained and well-equipped
contingents and personnel in troubled zones around the
World under UN/AU mandate or the Southern African
Development Community (SADC) in line with the African

Beye (EMPABB)
The School of Peacekeeping (Ecole de Maintien de la
Paix, EMP) was created in 1999 in Zambakro, Côte
d'Ivoire. The Ivorian crisis (2002) compelled the
relocation of the school to the Republic of Mali. Three
years after its relocation, in 2006, the EMP (Koulikoro)
had trained 1,633 officers from 40 African countries in
over 40 courses, since its inception in 1999. The School
