Light Travels In Straight Lines
The fact that we cannot see things around the corner tells us that light rays are not ‘curved’
but travel in straight lines.
Let’s find out if light travels in straight lines.
Step 1
Three sheets of cardboard with a hole punched in each of them are arranged in a straight line
so that the holes are aligned. A cardboard with a small slit is placed in front of a light source.
The light shines through the slit to produce a ray. A patch of light is seen on the screen.

Step 2
The middle piece of cardboard is then moved slightly downwards so that the three holes are
out of alignment.
The ray of light is now blocked by the middle cardboard and a patch of light is seen on it. No
patch of light is seen on the screen.
