Note 2: In cadasteral surveying the only measured and recorded features (like this portage) are at lot and concession (ROW) lines in between they are sketched in (but by experts!)
a: In the 1885 Ontario Sessional Papers the North Bay-Temiscamingue Colonization Rd is now Government Rd,/Klock Av./Algonquin Av. it notes that it "meets with an old
lumber road that leads to Trout Lake. The next year this road was extended and is now known as Highland, Stockdale, Golf Club and Tower Drive.
b: In the 1886 the OSP's report the Widdifield CR was extended between lots 20 and 21 -- this would become the Ferguson Hwy (1927.) It was forced to the east because of the .hill
c: In 1888 the OSP's report that the "old lumber road was assumed as the North Bay Trout Lake Road -- this would be McKeown, Millani and Ski Club Road
Note 3: It is interesting that both ends of all three historic Trout-Nipissing Portages are on City Owned Lands. The Lake Nipissing end of the portage has to be a prime archeaological site.
